Oh well, I have both Star Trek/X-Men crossovers. And the novel that was like the sequel.

Something just wrong about Riker talking about Shi'ar technology. And Bishop just hanging out on the hull of the NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, C or D) sucking up a weird nimbus of energy...

For one thing, Image was never established as being a comic books in the VALIANT Universe, so there's wiggle room for Deathmate to be justified.

Image was to VALIANT what DC is to Marvel, alternate realities.

If we're gonna go by canon, then canon established that DC and Marvel characters exist in comic books, Predators are real, and the Image Universe is an alternate reality.

That's canon, as it appears in the comics.

What about Wildstorm? The old PC line? Ultraverse? Dark-Horse's CGW or Hellboy? I need me a chart here.

You can justify a movie monster and I can't justify a comic book character? :?

I can justfiy an alien character, yes. It be hard to justify a two dimensional cartoon character... unless you want the VALIANT Universe to become like the world in Last Action Hero.
two dimensional cartoon characters have never been proven as sceince fact.

aliens have never been proven as sceince fact.

Spider-Aliens are fact in the VALIANT Universe, so why can't Predators too?

It be impossible and unrealistic for the Spider-Aliens to be the only other race in the universe besides humans.

That's a matter of context.

Until the actual comics address the safest assumption is that they don't exist as comic books in the VALIANT Universe.

What comics did Faith read when she worked at that comic book store besides Elfquest?

I don't remember if we saw covers for any other real comics or if there were any mentioned in the dialogue.

Elfquest was fact so why can't others be...

this is your own logic Mota... you used it two posts earlier

Oh, is it really so hard to believe in a world where the only comics are Marvel and DC?

(actually there are quite a few more races in the Valiant universe but I'll go by your logic)

Yes, impossible and unrealistic for their to be only 1 race of aliens when in historical possibility and reality there are none.

So if we revamped Kool Aid Man into an alien, he would be grounded in scientific fact?

Or we could go the true legend route and make him a myth, and he would be allowed entry into Valiant Universe?

Maybe we could do both?

OH, YEAH!

Valiant Entertainment should pursue this option instead of going for Solar, Magnus, or Turok. Clearly.

Why would they be dry? Because X-O can't meet the Kool-Aid Man?
Gee, how unlike you to put words in someone else's mouth.

Well, what is it that you want the rules to allow?

For a crossover with Kool-Aid Man? Mighty Mouse? Iron Man?
All crossovers suck. Every damn last one of them. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm perfectly willing to let talented creators take the Valiant characters in new directions, though. Or keep it the same way. I don't care, so long as they're done well.

A good well thought out script, tight continuity and awesome art...quality not quantity...is what is desired!!

Re: BobLayton.com: Unpublished VALIANT Yearbook Cover Timewa

Post by Todd Luck »

Just found this thread and skimmed it. For some reason, I couldn't find anyone who brought this up:

That image was published in an ad just before Birthquake for the Timewalker trade (never published) reprinting Ivar's A&A appearances and such, hence why most of those images are from A&A 11. Also on the ad was a plug for The Harbinger Wars plotline in Timewalker and the first Timewalker Yearbook, both of which were actually published.

I'm wondering if Layton remembers this correctly because it makes sense for that image to associated with a trade but not for a yearbook. What would the yearbook have been called? "The untold tales of Archer & Armstrong 11"?

And actually 4 out of 5 of the images in that piece are line-for-line reproductions (copies) of art from A&A 11 with body parts that had been cropped out by panel borders added to make the characters complete:

The bearded guy is taken from the panel where the ghost is walking by him (the ghost is removed)

Solar is an exact copy with his right hand added.

Ivar is a copy from a panel showing him from the waist up, so Layton added the rest of the body.

Armstong is a copy with nothing added, but his cap is moved up by a mili-inch.

Archer, I don't know, I don't think it's from that issue but it looks very familar. Could be orignal or it could be from another issue.

I'm not sure how BWS would've felt about this uncredited "homage" if it really had been used as a cover. Maybe it was really meant as a Timewalker lithograph :P

Just in case anyone actually cares. Here's the actual ad that the "unpublished" image appeared in (I'm sorry it's slightly cropped). Again it's really doubtful that image was drawn for a yearbook. More likely it was the cover for the trade it's advertising or just promotional art like the image used for "The Harbinger Wars" (since it's mainly copied from BWS's art, I'm hoping it's the later).

I get the red x both here and after clicking on the link.

Funny, now that I'm home I'm getting the same thing. Could it be a Mac/PC thing? I'm on a Mac at work where I scanned and saved the image and it worked fine when I viewed it there. Now that I'm at home I'm seeing the red x.

I'll rescan it in at home or resave it when I get time but most of you should now what the commercial looks like anyway. It was very widely published. Just open any VH-1 comic published three or four monthes after Chaos Effect (cover date Febuary and March 1995). I got it out of Shadowman 33 (it's also in 34).

I'm familiar with the ad you're talking about.

It mentions Ivar's past (the trade with the A&A and Magnus appearances), the present (I'm drawing a blank on that one, could be the Timewalker Yearbook), and future ("dark future" or "bleak future", some sort of future in reference to the Harbinger Wars trilogy).
