Its weird that there's a few GI JOE mentions here...I never thought anyone picked it up? In any case #2 was also one of the first comics I picked up and to this day it remains one of my favourite covers :thumb:

Don't remember the "first one" per se but do remember passing the time at the cottage with regular GI COMBAT, Fury and Sgt Rock, Capt Savage (early to mid 70's), which we would keep in a box. The Archie digest were also a big hit. Years later I rummaged thru that box and pulled most of them out and bagged them just for the hell of hit. I still have them as well as JOHN F KENNEDY LIFE STORY.

My first new comic and my first back issue. There was such a feeling of wonder in those first couple comics. What were the events that led the Hulk to his status quo by ish 307? Filling in the gaps was like magic.
"Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts...?"

Just think of it getting the fate in the end of ROBOCOP VS TERMINATOR and you might be fine.

Mine was............wait for it...................G. I. Joe #49 bought at the local shopping mall. For the first year or more all my comics came from the spinner rack at the mall bookstore. I was hooked pretty damn quick and have almost never looked back.

Mignola did about a year's worth of books. It was good stuff, less superhero interaction, more sci-fi, space themes.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

First comic I ever got was GI Joe #19 from the corner store by my dad's house in SA... Couldn't believe they killed off General Flagg, I was hooked... not too long after that I started picking up the Punisher comics sitting next to the Joe comics and thats what about sealed the deal for me... nothing like lots of guns and violence for a growing young boy :thumb:

For me it was a late 70's Spiderman and I can't remember the issue as that collection was sold in the early 90's.

That cover stuck with me, mainly because of the Bradbury homage, but the cover art was pretty damn awesome and creepy as well.

Plus the fact that the story was totally awesome, AND STILL IS TO THIS DAY. I re-read Rom 1-75 last year, and aside from some terribly hokey dialogue, and a plot that took FOREVER to get going, Rom #47 (which, of course, introduced the female or "real" dire wraiths to the series, who had a very unique way of operating) is the start of something truly spectacular in the Marvel U.

In THIS series, characters that you knew and loved ACTUALLY, PHYSICALLY died, with no POSSIBLE chance at resurrection later on, and they died GRUESOMELY (which, I think, is why the story stuck with me all those years. It's a NEAT-O trick!)

Rom #1-46 and #47-75 can rightfully be called Vol 1 and Vol 2.

If you have never read Rom.....I encourage all of you to pick up a set cheap (they can be had, in "NM" condition, on eBay for between $30-$45 for a complete set) and READ it....yes, it'll take a while to slog through the prelude, but once things start going in #47, it gets REALLY good.
A great evaluation of Rom by ZWH. It was a highly underrated series and a good read. Most definitely can be had for cheap and worth buying. Not to mention, JS was the man at the time these were published. Just not sure what his input was for the series.

The Crossroads storyline ran from 301-313. While Mignola did several covers he only contributed interiors on 311-313. By issue 314 Byrne took over and the Hulk returned to earth.

Of the Mignola issues 312 was especially interesting. It was one of the better Secret Wars II crossovers which dealt with Banner's childhood/abusive father.

Here's a synopsis: http://www.leaderslair.com/noexcuses/hulk2-312.html
"Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts...?"

I agree --- Rom and the direwraiths were a major storyline back in the day. Very enjoyable stories :thumb:
