XO MANOWAR #1. I was surprised I even bought it, I was soo busy buying works of art like 'Sleepwalker' and 'Punisher 2099' at the time. I was surpised by the story, It had a nice amount of action and was a fun read, but it was still a little bit somber and grounded for such an out-of- this-world story. I think this was the tone for entire valiant line. Aric the Barbarian has been my man ever since then.

I'm happy to be back in these messageboards after a long absence.
For me, it was the early 1990's when I saw a vaguely familiar character from the Silver Age of comics back on the comicbook store stands.
It was Magnus, Robot Fighter, the "futuristic Tarzan" !! as my Dad once described this character to me as a child.
My Dad gave me his old comicbook collection and immersed myself in the DC and Marvel universes.
I grew up with the DC Universe. Batman, Wonder Woman & The Justice League were my favorites originally.
But I was thrilled to see NEW MAGNUS comics once again. I read the 1st issue and loved it. I also noticed how much better the writing was now. But always loved Russ Manning's style to this day. Magnus was the anchor of the Valiant Universe and to a secondary degree, so was Dr. Solar.
When the Original creations came along, it was sheer heaven. Here was a new universe to explore using concepts and approaches I didn't often see from DC or Marvel. The VALIANT STORIES were simply the Best!!! There was genuine suspense and unpredictability which made things fresh.
(Although I was upset when the original "RAI" was killed off)
HARBINGER, X-O MANOWAR, MAGNUS, SHADOWMAN were my faves.
And Master DARQUE!!! - Awesome!!!
I never liked the original Turok series from the Silver Age but enjoyed the "Turok, Dinosaur Hunter" version!
I even liked "SECRET WEAPONS" which to me, was VALIANT's equivalent of the Justice League or Avengers!!
If only they hadn't tried to oversaturate the market at the time with new titles and waited for thngs to develop.
DID I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY FROM A RECENT ARTICLE THAT THERE ARE TALKS IN REVIVING THE ORIGINAL VALIANT UNIVERSE??
