Shadowman Volume 3 mysteries... Help!
Hey guys...
I'm still trying to figure out the details surrounding the Shadowman Volume 3 books.
Particularly the #1 "No Price" variant...
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/issue.asp?cn=1274
The copy that I have has a centerfold of a two-page ad for the Shadowman video game.
The inside back cover is an ad for an Armorines video game,
and the back cover is an ad for Acclaim's "Re-Volt" video game.
There are no other advertisements in the book.
Does everyone's copy of the "No Price" variant match mine?
Are there possibly copies with extra ads... such as ads for Acclaim comics,
or the "editorial pages" that are found in the with price versions?
Those of you who can check... thanks!
ALSO
Who can tell me the differences in the "Special Edition" books...
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/issue.asp?cn=1296
one is regular sized, the other is "ashcan sized".
Do both have a Retailer Review inside?
What is on the extra pages? (Is it video game walk-through or just ads?)
Any details are appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for checking...Daniel Jackson wrote:OK, mine matches your copy. It has the Shadowman centerfold ad, the armorines ad on the back inside cover and the re-volt ad on the very back.
I was comparing to the $3.95 version of #1, and the $3.95 version
has several comic ads, probably 8 total extra pages, mostly at the back,
an ad for issue #2 inside-back, and an almost-all-black
back cover with a Turok "back for more" 1999 ad.
I'm wondering if any of the "no price" variants have those extra pages,
or different ads than just video games.

I just checked the priced version for the heck of it and it has a one page ad for the Armorines book about 1/4 of the way through, an ad for Q & W #32 (towards the back), a double page Shadowman video game ad, followed by another double page Shadowman video game ad, an ad for Q&W Magnum Force TPB,( last page) and and ad for Shadowman #2 on the back inside cover with and ad for Turok on the very back.

Mine's also a match.greg wrote:Does everyone's copy of the "No Price" variant match mine?
I only have the small one.Who can tell me the differences in the "Special Edition" books...
...Any details are appreciated. Thanks!
The two normal covers are reprinted on the inside cover.
It says "Special edition edited by Omar Banmally and Michael Marts".
The story is without ads. There's no extra story or retialer review.
Then a two-page ad for the game (same pages as the front and back cover of the comic) and a two-page ad for Deadside.

What is the story in the small version? Was it printed in another format or is it an all new story? Thanks, ~Pete
Re: Shadowman Volume 3 mysteries... Help!
The larger version has two additional pages(4 pages total) for the Shadowman game, a two page ad for a game called MACHINES, another two page add for a South Park game and finally a two page add for the extreme-G XG2 video game. Everything else is the same as the smaller version.magnusr wrote:

Which story are we talking about being in the "Special Edition"?
Is it the same story as in Shadowman Volume 3 #1?
Where did I get the idea that the "Special Edition" contained a Retailer Review?
You guys correct me, and I'll correct the site. Thanks!

This thread from 2004 provides most of the information that you are looking for regarding the regular sized edition.greg wrote:Hey guys...

I think the scan of the comic from the auction I ran for this issue was used for some time on your site, it still might be for all I know.

The Special Edition contains a REPRINT of the story from Shadowman Vol TWO #1, by Ennis & Wood.greg wrote:Thanks guys!magnusr wrote:Same as in the regular comic.Zero wrote:What is the story in the small version?

I don't know if it's COMPLETE, but I do know that's what's inside.

So, I think it still need some basics.
Shadowman Vol 2 #1 Special Edition - regular sized
- What is the page count?
- Is the content only Shadowman Vol 2 #1 plus 1998 ads?
- Even though the artwork is very "Volume 3", there is no actual Volume 3 content, correct?
Shadowman Vol 2 #1 Special Edition - ashcan (smaller) sized
- What is the page count?
(Is it exactly 8 pages less than regular? More? Less?)
Can we determine where these books came from?
Inside specially marked boxes of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil?
Were the large books from the PC version? Small from Nintendo?
Any other distribution that we know of?
Thanks for your help again.

I think the small books were in the Turok PC game. I have no idea where the larger version came from, but i'm almost certain it wasn't inserted as a package in any video game (PC or otherwise). It just doesn't come up for sale too often.greg wrote:So, I think it still need some basics.

Another one of these in the UK? I'm starting to think that more of these got sent to Europe than the US.dzminn wrote:...and those that didn't, now do.Brother J wrote:I bet everyone who had this on their eBay watch list is ripping their hair out right now since you posted this...dzminn wrote:In case you are chasing this bad boy, looky here.. http://cgi.ebay.com/TUROK-2-SEED-OF-EVI ... dZViewItem
