Hulk #181 in fine...overstreet value?

Same here - kind of. I've been getting a run of Infinite Crisis, and I'm going for a complete set of the Perez covers. The store didn't pull #5 for me. So I ask the owner (not the usual guy who's there when I get my books) if he has any #5s left. He points at the big pile of Lee covers he has. I tell him that I'm looking for the other cover. He points up at the wall where he's already jacked the price up to $6. I got it, but I'm still waiting. I'm looking for a new job in a different area, and once I get it I'm never going back there. Makes any guilt about some of the Valiants I've gotten from him (Solar 50-60 for $2 each, same for X-O 61-68. Magnus 60-64, Turok 40-47, etc.) go away completely.

My LCS was doing sort of the same thing when the IC minis started soming out... they knew OMAC Project #1 was getting re-printed, so THE SAME WEEKEND after the release, those books were $5, $10 by the time the next Wednesday's shipment rolled in.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
Yep. Mine's posted a sign like that, too - basically says that if it sits in your hold box for three weeks and goes up (like the IC lead-ins did) they can jack the price up. Really nice attitude, especially considering that:
1) They're the only shop in the county.
2) They're right outside an army base.
Still better than one that closed literally in the middle of the night. I was looking through some (overpriced) Silver Age stuff and they said "Don't pay too much attention to the prices. Those are base prices." Really turned me off and I didn't go back. Sorry, but ripping soldiers off isn't something that makes a fan out of me.
When I get moved, there aren't any stores in the immediate vicinity, so I'm definitely going to start ordering online. By the way, if any of you are interested, that store's up for sale. $200,000.

Don't you all think it's high time we form a lynching brigade on illegal sh!t like this...?Erskine71 wrote:400yrs wrote:

I took them up to the register to purchase them and he looks through them and says, "Sorry, I hate to do this to you, but these are slabbable so I'm going to send them to CGC."
That chapped my *SKREE* because I dug through crap to find those. It's not good to *SQUEE* off your long time customers. He ended up shutting down. I knew that if I had waited another week, it would be his wife or son in the shop and I could have gotten them all for a buck then for sure. Instead, I figured he'd honor his word, but you can't really expect that out of most comic shop guys - even ones that you have shopped with for years every week.
Yeah, I went to a local (smaller) convention in Indy about 6 months back. A guy there had a few long boxes of comics for $1 each. The guy wasn't even really selling books. He was there to pawn his bootleg DVDs & just so happened to have a few boxes of books. He tells me while I'm sifting through his books that all the books are $1.00 except the signed books, which were only $5.00 each. I hit the jackpot & pulled about 50-75 pre-Unity books out of his boxes. They were all bagged/boarded & looked to be high grade. So, I'm thinking $50-$75 & I have my stash... I hand him the books & apparently he notices I pulled multiples of books & they were all Valiant. I guess that got him figuring they must be worth something because he quotes me $300.00 for them!! I called him on his earlier price & he just started being an a$$ to me over it, so I just let him keep his books.![]()
I can understand if you make an honest mistake, ala a Hulk 181 in a discount bin. To me, that's an honest & obvious mistake. But to do a customer like that is just begging for a boycott... :x
Think about it....arsewipe seller pulls stunt like above.
Customer walks away....gathers 25 of his friends....and stands in front of said dealer's table, refusing to allow other customers through.
Someone calmly explains to him/her that "if you ADVERTISE a certain price, it is ILLEGAL to BAIT AND SWITCH a customer and quote a HIGHER price. If you're too lazy to sort out the "good" books beforehand, you have a choice: sell for what you advertised at, or don't sell at all."
After about an hour of this blockade, the seller will PROBABLY get the message. If they whine to the con promotor/organizer, explain the situation to THEM, and encourage them NOT to allow said dealer back to the show, or you will be organizing a protest and calling law enforcement in.
I'm telling you all, though, it takes a MOB to deal with situations like this. One or two rabble rousers doesn't work.

I wish I had 25 friends. Then I wouldn't have to pass my time sorting through dollar bins at a crappy convention...
