I don't know how well it would work, but I could see one that rotates like this: Sting's head - Harbinger emblem - Harada's head - Harbinger emblemDaniel Jackson wrote:I don't know how well it would work, but maybe you could merge all of them in some form or another.oldjello wrote:I'm going to work on a Harbinger logo, Shadowman logo, perhaps something with Rai #0, and Solar. It's really a shame that, as time goes by, this site feels it has to distance itself from what VALIANT was. And what VALIANT was made it great. What VALIANT _is_ --right now-- is dead in the water. The Dark Horse Magnus reprints? Poor in quality. The Magnus face-lift from iBooks? Terrible on its best day. The "other" VALIANT characters? Imminent? on the horizon? just around the corner? That's what we've heard/been telling ourselves for months. And months. The light at the end of the tunnel? Please. If VALIANT ever comes back, which it isn't any time soon, it will not be the old VALIANT that was great. It just won't. When I jupmed on to this board years ago, there was a core of members who loved VALIANT for what it was, and loved talking to other people who felt the same way. As time goes by, those members leave or stay silent. And why shouldn't they? The board distances itself from that greatness all of the time. I'm still not sure why. The fear of being sued by two impotent parties? The prospect of fame and fortune by supporting the "winner" of those two parties when the time comes (IF the time comes)? It's sad, regardless. I can't blame those who dropped out along the way. They just wanted the peace of mind of knowing that this board was a hold-out, a community of people who loved one of their favorite hobbies. It was really a simple thing to want.
And you know it may be stupid, but whenever I hear, "Yeah, we can't post that picture anymore because XXXXX said it was no longer legal." "Yeah, VcVSS is a bad thing, we can't call it that!" It used to make me sad. I hate seeing good people back down from good principles. "At least," I would think to myself, "Greg still keeps the old compass up." And, silly as it sounds, that made feel better. Like there was something of the old VALIANT still hanging around, defying the heartless groups fighting for the "rights" to VALIANT.
But that, too, is now being phased out. And by the responses to this thread, and other like it, I can see that most people really don't care. To me, that's sad. Again, I can only speak for me. I hate to see it go; I really do. There is no way I can support whoever publishes the VALIANT characters this time around, if it ever happens. They have already proven themselves to be soulless and beyond caring about the "VALIANT fan base." They prove it every day.
There may be others who feel the way that I do, but not many. And that's ok. Just know that when Dino & Co. or VIP publishes the first round of books that makes the iBooks Magnus look like Shakespeare, I won't post "I told you so" on this or any other board, but I'll be thinking it.
And this board, in it's complacency, is just greasing up, bending over the nearest chair, and taking it. Fortune and glory?
No thanks.

Hey Will, thanks for your opinion, although I personally beg to differ. I guess if your not interested in the board you can choose not to come here, but I think you need to understand that this board is about a bunch of VALIANT fans who look at things in different ways. Will wrote:It's really a shame that, as time goes by, this site feels it has to distance itself from what VALIANT was. Do I lament the loss of the compass? Not Really.
I really could care less about the symbol at the top of the page, the stories have been read and read and disected a million times, but I do care about the good people I have met on this board who happen to also be VALIANT comic collectors, and that's what it's all about, at least to me, anyway.
I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.

-VIP's newsarama article where Chris Priest is quoted
-the copyrights owners quote to greg right as they won that was something to the effect of "We want to return these characters to their Pre-Unity status".
As far as I know nothing else has been said, from either party, any news source or through Greg.
Greg said that the logo change was motivated by him not VIP or the copyright guys.
I can't recall anything about a certain image being banned because someone said so, and again I thought the above two are the only instances of anyone saying anything.
The VcVSS change was motivated by not wanting to confuse people into thinking those are real and official books. I think that is a valid point and would commend the person who instigated, which to my knowledge was Greg.
I know board members have been saying that the new owners have been saying this and that but there is no proof and no official word confirming it. Even I could jump on that bandwagon but its not a legitimate statement.
What you've done is taken a very strong stance based on the information that has been posted without realizing that you are putting a lot of blame on people solely because of hearsay and speculation. You say they have proven their colours. My question is how did they do that without saying anything or taking any action.
Clearly, the VIP situation has put a need for silence on proceedings. I am just as worried as you but I will reserve judgement until the facts are available.
PS I still see the compass all over the site. If Greg was meant to remove it he did a bad job

It's true that none of it is "fact" but the general outline is there.
For whatever reason Greg felt the need to quash VK's desire to reprint and distribute the VCB at cost. We also "know" that Dino felt that he had the authority to allow VK to distribute copies for free. We also "know" that a new "authorized" VCB is in the works.
It is clear that there is some bullying going on behind the scenes. Which is unfortunate, since we are all supposedly on the same side.

Chuckwood seems to pretty much have it right here as far as I can tell, I think any criticism of the Kothari/Shamdasani group or the VIP group for that matter is pretty premature, at least give whoever the chance and give them credit for even trying to do something with these properties and not be so negative before anything has even happened.chuckwood wrote:[I know board members have been saying that the new owners have been saying this and that but there is no proof and no official word confirming it. Greg felt the need to quash the sale because, as he stated, he will not let copyright infringement be part of his boards. Can't blame a guy for following the law. The Bible is an intercompany memo and therefore enforceable under copyright law (I think) and it even says on that cover scan SonicDan put up that its not to be sold, copied, distributed etc.
The seller of the bibles said Dino, who is only speculated to be involved, gave him authority to give them away free. I'm not calling him a liar but maybe he took it out of context, maybe he was advised to give it away free. Maybe Dino doesn't have authority to say *SQUEE*.
The board member who is doing the new bible said he had authority from Gold Key not from VIP or the copyright holders (I can't remember if he said this outright or if maybe he inferred).
Again I think we know nothing for certain, too little information is out there and too much is speculation, rumor and hearsay.

None of this is fact, just the opinion of one boardmember who, im my opinion, was basically speaking out of line with no verification of his facts, I will not name names because I am not looking to start another flame war on this topic, about this boardmember, who I otherwise really don't have any problem with.chuckwood wrote:Also isn't this member notorious for starting fights, insulting people, instigating matters etc. I apologise profusely if I am mistaken. Steve is many things. It's a gross oversimplification to say that he ALONE is notorious for starting fights, insulting people, instigating matters etc. Steve's not innocent, but neither are those that he frequently tussled with. They (sometimes) looked for excuses to go at it with each other.chuckwood wrote:...

That's really my point. If Dino (so far as we know) is the rightful new owner, then why does Greg need to worry about being beaten over the head with copyright infringement? The answer is that someone is willing to beat Greg (and anyone else) over the head with copyright infringement. It's the willingness to enforce that I am mostly curious about.chuckwood wrote:...
