Hey,

I've seen no one has commented the Solus series by one of my personal favorites, George Perez... is it any good? How about the Meridian stuff by Josh Middleton?
Just my 2 cents (of an euro)

Solus LOOKS good but I have not read it. Reviews were mixed but as always George Perez's art is stellar. Combined with the CrossGen staff I am sure that his art was made to look great !!!

The Meridian story sounds good (I think it was done before, not sure but it sounds familiar) but for me personally, I do not like the art. Again, I will save my whole hearted reviews of these books until after I get them all and read them.

Gee... only about 60 books to go. LOL

Oh man, that just gave me wet panties... WAAAAAAAIITTTT a minute, that just did NOT sound right !!!

LOL, sounds like plan Ric. If that means what I think it means, maybe I can finish this run off while up in Phoenix. Lord knows, I want to complete this one so bad (and Continuity as well) !!!

I will call soon... my car has been repaired. Everything is good to go !!

Hi. First time poster here. I dig the site.
cornflakeboy wrote:I've seen no one has commented the Solus series by one of my personal favorites, George Perez... is it any good?
It's kind of a tough question to answer. Perez's art was his usual high standard, and I really enjoyed Solus, but it would be absolutely impenetrable to someone who wasn't already fully conversant with the various factions that had been established throughout the Sigilverse in the three or four hundred issues that preceeded it. And the first issue was maybe the least understandable at all. IMO, a huge tactical blunder for CrossGen -- they finally get Perez back from JLA/Avengers, the biggest name in their stable and one of the most revered artists in the biz, and they put him on a title that no one can understand. Maybe people would have followed Perez to CG titles if he drew something accessable, but one look at the first few pages of Solus, and you could hear the stampede of customers to something that made some sense.

Of course, if you were fully conversant with the Sigilverse, it was still really complex, but fulfilling. My advice -- pick it up if you find it, but don't plan to read it until you've digested a lot of the previous CGU material.
How about the Meridian stuff by Josh Middleton?
Middleton got the axe after the first half-dozen issues or so and was replaced by Steve McNiven. McNiven took a few months to get up to speed but really blossomed thereafter, and he's now one of Marvel's fair-haired boys. Both of them did beautiful work on Meridian. It was also one of CrossGen's best stories, with the main character, Sephie, slowly but inoxerably coming into her own, and her Uncle Ilahn is one of CrossGen's great villains. Like all CG's stuff, it went a bit wonky at the end when they knew the curtain was coming down and they wanted to get the story told (they failed, of course), but before that it was a consistently excellent book. One other negative note -- writer Beeber Kessel is a great, great world-builder and storyteller, but IMHO, her dialogue is really tin-eared. So that takes some getting used to, and some forgiveness. But it shouldn't stand in the way of the great story therein.

Oh, hey, one more thing -- your Sigil-centric/non-Sigil list needs a little updating. Kiss Kiss Bang Band, El Cazador, and the El Caz one-shot are all Sigilverse titles; they just took place far away from the main conflicts that drove the other Sigilverse books. I can explain it a little better with a spoiler (pretty minor, IMO)

With the exception of a few issues set earlier and occasional flashbacks, almost all of the Sigilverse books took place at the same time, circa 82,000 A.D., on various planets throughout the universe. KKBB and El Caz were exceptions; El Caz took place during the age of pirates on Earth (17th century or thereabouts) and KKBB took place in the 1960's on Earth. They were established that way when CG realized the interconnectivity of its titles was hurting sales, so they kind of became stealth Sigilverse titles. But they were set there nonetheless, and had future issues been published, that would have eventually become clear.

I have found nothing to support this information. My list stands as it is unless you can link me to such information.

Can you point me to one instance where a Sigil is noted or mentioned in an El Calzador or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang book ?

The villain in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was an Atlantean that went into hibernation along with the rest of the Atlanteans not partaking in the Ascension and awoken prior to the main characters in Crux.

That is the connection.

Also, I don't think the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang movie and the comic have anything to do with one another.

Not having the books yet, I didnt know that. Now it makes me want to read that title even more so. But is there any dealings with 'Sigils' ?

What Brian said.
Knightt wrote:But is there any dealings with 'Sigils' ?
It's in continuity with the sigil books, if that's what you're asking. There aren't any actual sigils in it, but there aren't any in Crux, Ruse, Route666, or Way of the Rat, either -- they're still all part of the same milleu, the same way the Fantastic Four is in continuity with the X-Men even though there aren't any mutants in it.

Actually, there *is* a Sigil in Route666. You just have to read the last issue to find it.

I thought there were sigils in Crux too... I could be wrong though.

What was the last issue of Route 666? :? That was the only crossgen I bought. It lasted longer than most and would like to either get the whole series or sell the ones I have
thanks

oh yeah, the sigil was on the main character's head in Route 666 under her hair. I think they revealed it somewhere in the middle of the series, but I would have to check. I don't know about the last issue cause I don't think I've read it. :!:

There is a handy dandy issue list at the begining of this thread. That might be a good place to start in answering your last issue of Route 666 question.

Route 666 was hardly a series that 'lasted longer than most'. The following issues lasted until the mid 40s, while Route 666 did not:

MYSTIC 43

SIGIL 42

SCION 43

MERIDIAN 44

R666 had many fewer issues published, it's true, but it did outlast several other CrossGen titles which were cancelled during an earlier stage of CG's troubles. The plan was to try and focus on those titles that had less of a direct connection with the metaplot elements, hence, the establishment of KKBB and El Caz, and the focus on Sojourn and R666 -- all of which took place in the Sigilverse, but none of which focused on the main story therein like, say, Sigil or Solus did.

The Crux emblem that appeared in Crux and elsewhere wasn't really a sigil, and wasn't referred to as such -- it looked different and had different powers than the sigil. Symbolism was very important in the Sigilverse; while some folks had sigils, others had the Crux emblem, others had glyphs of a different type, and still others had kind of a reverse or negative sigil.

Chris,

I belive route 666 was launched much later than those titles you listed. They were the first wave of crossgens, r666 was not. I meant timewise not issue #. sorry for the confusion.

Finally got this - the info comes from both Diamond and ICv2.com.

Excluding 2nd prints, re-orders, TPB's and pre March 2002 issues here is the 'full' list from the most to least common issues. This excludes sales outside North America and re-orders in months following the initial release.
