Queer eye for a straight guy- Sting?!!!!!
About 6-7 years ago I spoke to Jim Shooter at a comic convention in NY when he was doing The Broadway line. In his tenure at Valiant he had alluded in one of his monthly editorials that a major character would be revealed as being gay. Since this revelation never materialized due to him being dismissed from the company, I had asked him who that charater was supposed to be. He stated that it was supposed to be Sting!!!! I always wondered why Sting told Torque that he loved him before his death in issue #6. Kinda shocking for me since Harbinger was my favorite book and Sting was my favorite character at the time. Has this ever been disussed? any reasons why they strayed away from the original plan? See what happens when you dig up old issues to read!

I believe my pal Anthony is refering to the unpublished issue 4. The central discussion between Peter and his new girlfriend follows:
(better put a spoiler warning here, in case anyone cares)
...and with Chris, sometimes I couldn't even...you know. She thinks I'm gay. But with you...
You can see into people's minds, Peter. It's no wonder you're in touch with the female side of sex. Nothing wrong with that. I find it exciting.
Chris found it disgusting.
Huh. Maybe she has some problems...
You know, Peter...I can be anything you want. It's something I inherited from my father.
You mean...?
Uh-huh. I can be a boy for you, if you like. Since you can move energy, I think I may even be able to teach you how to make yourself into the girl sometimes.
Lucy, I can't believe this. It's like my whole life has been leading up to meeting you-and now, everything's all right. It's like...you're an angel.

Where did this come from? I've seen the plots for the unpublished issues on the archived Petrilak site but I've never seen any actual script for them. Is this available on the internet?magnusr wrote:I believe my pal Anthony is refering to the unpublished issue 4. The central discussion between Peter and his new girlfriend follows:

Petrilak did a limited print of the Shooter interview, plots, scripts and prelimary cover sketches by Shooter. Not sure if he ever shared the e-file with the public. I'm pretty sure I had it at one time. On my old PC. The one whose hard drive crashed.Todd Luck wrote:Where did this come from? I wish more people DID read it. The unpublished issues are a large part of why I'm glad that U2K was cancelled (the publiushed issues being the other part). It just kept getting worse and worse.
I've chosen to believe that it was deliberate sabotage on Shooter's part. Mainly because the other option is that he doesn't have it any more.
Yeah--it was sabotage.

Is the A & O plot housed on Greg's site?

I had heard that Shooter was going to leave the project anyway because Starlin was changing the story too much.

The scripts are out there somewhere - heck, I have them on one of my hard drives somewhere, so if you can't find it, PM me and I'll send them your way.
But I'll warn you - the more you read of Unity 2000, the less that you want to read. And no offense to any of the artists involved - but the entire project seemed doomed to failure. It's almost as if Jim didn't understand the characters as they were scheduled to appear, and as if the artist didn't have any character models to draw from, and instead did so from memory. I'll have a coherent diatribe on that subject posted in the next few days, I think.

Nope. He threatened not to script #6 because Acclaim wasn't paying him in a timely manner.x-omatic wrote:I had heard that Shooter was going to leave the project anyway because Starlin was changing the story too much.
And they were going to append a "fix" to U2K because no one at Acclaim was happy with it, but they couldn't spend any more money trying to save the universe to dispense with what they'd bought.
Sigh.

I'd love copy of what you have. And I can't wait to read your coherent diatribe!Byrneout wrote:The scripts are out there somewhere - heck, I have them on one of my hard drives somewhere, so if you can't find it, PM me and I'll send them your way.

Nope. Those are just the plots. But if you read, it's the hard copy that we're talking about...andrew wrote:Are you guys talking about this?

Checked out the U2K script via the link that andrew provided, as someone posted earlier it appears to be a complete sabotage by Shooter. Guess maybe bitterness or him wanting to destroy a lot of which he helped create.
DawgPhan- nothing wrong with being gay LOL but after reading the early issues of Harbinger again maybe Sting had a thing for Torque which I never really caught when I first read them over a decade ago (
WOW- been that long huh) kind of explains why Sting told Torque that he loved him before he died.

Wow. That kind of commitment says a lot.magnusr wrote: Uh-huh. I can be a boy for you, if you like. Since you can move energy, I think I may even be able to teach you how to make yourself into the girl sometimes.
Dang. That scene is gay.myron wrote:read harbinger 0 carefully and check out who he is in bed with...on page 1.

Now hold on, we know from Rai 0 that Harada had no problem being a crossdresser, but I don't buy that sting was gay. Harbinger 0- did none of you ever horse around with your friends? They were both clothed. Anyway, maybe there were "disagreements about how the company should proceed" maybe this was one of the things that helped shooter leave? (I mean we know what he says about the whole issue, but maybe there is a lighter side.)

And for the record, I've never horsed around with one of my friends in bed unless they were of the opposite sex. Is there something you want to tell us DJSpecter?

sure I'll tell, according to hopemaledotcom a site done by a man who claimed to have been able to change his orientation from gay to straight... he claims that his gay orientation was enforced by not having any physical contact and being embarased of his nakedness in front of other guys when he was younger... anything you want to tell us whetton?
anyway, I'm not claiming that shooter didn't plan on him being gay. I'm saying that maybe that was something that they (the non-shooters) wanted to change. I mean we know he has a long line of ancestors.

I was re-reading issue #0 and decided that it was simply two friends hanging out. They’re no signs at all of Peter and his friend being gay. As for issue #6, well, he undoubtedly said he loved Torque but when a friend of yours is dying and you’re trying to wish him well... it didn't come of as gay but more like a reassuring plead to basically say "stay cool man". In fact if it wasn't for Shooter saying he was gay then I wouldn't have followed.
He hangs with Kris as his girlfriend for 25 issues. Then runs off with Flamigo at the end of issue #25 so I figured they would of got all hot and heavy. He's got to be bi-sexual or unaware of his sexual tendencies. It's just doesn't add up. He seems to chase tail like the rest of us!
My username is Whetteon. It comes with two "e's" not one. What's so fricking hard about it? It's actually two names slapped together. Whet was an online character I played in a mropg and Teon was a old, old mud character name. Both charaters have history and both are represented in the spelling of my username. So now you know. I hope you still respect me as a person.

Yes I do. Gentlemen and Ladies, this is hard for me to say but I would like to inform you of the following...anything you want to tell us whetton?

I do respect you and hope that you can respect me as well, after all: after re-reading the Harbinger aspects of Unity I decided that Sting was meant to have a thing for Torque. Regarding the death bit, though- there isn't any indication of who said that line (at least on the copies I've seen). My interpretation was that it was coming from outside of Torque's head, probably Kris or 'Mingo.
