Last Hours for Magnus #1 1963 Cover Art
This is a grail cover for some. 18 hours left in the auction as of this post. Price is $28,800 with buyer's premium. This could be a bargain from the last sale in 2015 for just shy of $55K. This would be a really fun cover to own.

No! But I did add a Marvel Spotlight 5 to my collection this week. I’m hoping for a 9.4 on it. 9.2 at least.
Re: Last Hours for Magnus #1 1963 Cover Art
Will be interesting to see. Not just because it's a grail but as an indicator of the whole market. It is my experience that prices often more than double in the last hours. Of course, even double the current price would mean a small loss for the current owner after fees.nycjadie wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 5:55 pm This is a grail cover for some. 18 hours left in the auction as of this post. Would love to see it go to someone here. I'm already outbid.

Final sale? $168,000!
Sounds like the prior owner, who bought this in 2015 and had this on their wall, did quite, quite well!

Re: Last Hours for Magnus #1 1963 Cover Art
Wow, for the sake of my home insurance I must ask a question for everyone here who has followed the market better than me. In the back of my head I had this idea that maybe this sale could double the previous price. I thought it was a farfetched idea, and then the price actually tripled. So I wonder what that means for the cover to issue 2? Was this price increase unique because it's number 1 or should I assume that other painted covers also have tripled in value the last years?nycjadie wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2024 6:29 pm Final sale? $168,000!

Re: Last Hours for Magnus #1 1963 Cover Art
I think it’s a key iconic issue and image and people are paying premiums for these types of items knowing they will last.
Marvel Spotlight 5 in 9.8 is going for near $300K. Why? I think there are only 6-7.

Re: Last Hours for Magnus #1 1963 Cover Art
I DO NOT follow the market, but I would say their is a premium for issue one original comic book art, especially if it the first appearance of a character.
Saying that, with the first issue having gained so much in value, that would push the following covers up in value. Not trying to 'big you up' but the painted artwork is amazing on the painted cover. And the same for issue 2,3 etc.
It also depends on the cover art itself, some covers are better than others, saying that all those painted covers are gorgeous.
SO yes, a premium goes to the first issue, but going for such a high price - I feel pushes up the value of the other painted original cover art. Same artist, same character.
Maybe others with more knowledge than me can add there comments - and yes - time to top up home insurance!
300 K for a 9.8 Marvel Spotlight is silly. What ?? 1973 . I wonder what else was avalible for 300K in the comic market to compare that to.

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

That's a good point and by itself enough that I should up my insurance. Thank you.Phantom wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 9:19 am the first issue having gained so much in value, that would push the following covers up in value.

Wow. Shocked that it went for so much. Congrats to the buyer and the seller.
I've been following all the Don Rosa duck original art in the Heritage auctions but haven't bought anything as I doubt I'd be allowed to hang them up in the house.
