Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
It's really good.
Great artwork, great tone, great characterizations, and the story is intriguing.
My only complaint about is is that it does require having read pretty much everything that came before it, likely not just from Alien but also from VEI. As someone who hasn't caught up with anything from either since 2017 (yet), that does make some things difficult to follow.

I really enjoyed it as well. For me, Alien’s love for the characters is coming through. Looking forward to issue #2. I’m hoping some of the older VEI fans will come across the book and be pleasantly surprised. I hope they maintain this quality after some hits and misses in the lead up books.

Definitely. It's why I've been saying that I'm more interested in what comes after Resurgence than what came before it.aj583 wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 6:57 pm I really enjoyed it as well. To me, everything prior to it felt much like what Acclaim did at the end of VH 1 when they just published two issues each a month of Ninjak, Bloodshot, Turok, and X-O Manowar leading to the VH 2 reboot.

VF Old-ish Fart here… I pretty much walked away from reading Valiant when DMG happened, but still lurk here from time to time, so well aware of the current Alien output.
Gotta say, Resurgence wasn’t too bad! I’m not sure I’m completely onboard with the Alien stuff so far, but Resurgence was definitely ok. Love the intent of bringing back that Shared Universe feeling, and Resurgence certainly gave me good vibes in that regard - Shadowman noticing Darque’s resurrection of Flamingo, or Ivar sending X-O out into space to find Divinity for example. FVL is crafting something interesting, and the art was certainly a step up from what I’ve seen so far out of the rest of the Alien efforts.
Looking forward to next issue!

When people cite the lack of cohesion in the DMG books it's another thing that brings to mind the final months of VH 1 to me, when Bloodshot, Ninjak, X-O, and Turok just existed but never interacted.

You talking Birthquake to the end? Inclined to agree, though it’s been way too long since I read them. If I recall correctly, Giffen’s Magnus did a good job of incorporating Rai and Psi-Lords into the final arc. And after that, the Preview issues with Magnus exploring VH2 got me really excited that they were going to recapture the magic of VH1. We know how that turned out.ManofTheAtom wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 4:02 pmAgreed!Keith wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 3:56 pm VF Old-ish Fart here… I pretty much walked away from reading Valiant when DMG happened, but still lurk here from time to time, so well aware of the current Alien output.

Pretty much referring to everything after Magnus was cancelled, when the only thing they published were two issues a month of each of the titles I mentioned, all of which were two-part stories but without any connection between each series to one another.Keith wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 7:47 pmYou talking Birthquake to the end? Re: Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
Gilad's chest is a bit large, and I'm wondering why Savage looked so much older.
But I'm enjoying Valiant characters interacting, and lots of nods to existing continuity. The universe is feeling like it's getting back on track, and the character's current stories are progressing.
I'm interested to see where this goes. I'm hoping there's a good in-story reason for Flamingo's resurrection... But I am all for it. It might be really interesting, can't wait to find out.
I don't know that the nudity was necessary. It was VERY unexpected.
I think Alien has quickly pivoted, and made some decent moves to realign the Valiant universe.

Re: Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
Thinking back on Resurgence #1 makes me wish there were more tie-in issues published concurrent with each instalment of the event.
Other than for the pages about the kid who jumps off the cliff, the rest of the first issue could be repeated and expanded upon in said tie-ins to give it more added depth.
As is, all we really see are quick vignettes of different characters.
I can't help but compare it to a '90s-style DC or Marvel crossover mini-series with 20+ tie-ins that would do exactly that, repeat what happens in the core mini-series and expand upon it.

Re: Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
Decent first issue. Different artists for the different story parts but they were all to a good standard. Visually, this was up to the standard of a solid VEI book.
Story wise, it’s ambitious for sure. Death is no longer a thing…they address some of my questions in the story. Can you still feel pain? Yes you can. Do you have to believe in Silk to benefit? Not sure!
Hopefully they don’t tie themselves up in knots with this story,
3.75/5 - worth reading, cautiously optimistic

Re: Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
I had not purchased a Valiant title in a while, but I got this one and found it to be fine. A good start.
I know, it's shocking for a Valiant fan to buy and enjoy a Valiant title, but it happens every now and then. These aren't carried by my LCS and I didn't pre-order the rest of the mini, so I guess won't know how it ends.

You can get the trade when it comes out or look for the rest on the shelves if your store carries them or try other stores if they don't.possumgrease wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:22 am I had not purchased a Valiant title in a while, but I got this one and found it to be fine. A good start.

Re: Resurgence of the VALIANT Universe #1
I only read the EW tie-in one-shot but it's a nice start.
If this was VEI, it'd be mediocre. But compared to the DMG trash, it was a breath of fresh air. I wasn't floored by it, but also didn't feel like i deserved that hour back.

I'm not super excited about the Alien (restart? This doesn't even feel like a soft reboot. But continuation feels disingenuous) books, but i will definitely say they are on the right track.ManofTheAtom wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:53 pmCool.Oxmyx wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:18 pm I only read the EW tie-in one-shot but it's a nice start.

It was pretty cool where the EW one-shot FINALLY tied Brittania in to the larger universe.
I hate the idea of an AnniPadda sister, so I hate having Warmonger in the book.
