Let’s settle this once and for all …BEST VALIANT EVENT!
Ok so Alien have a new ambitious event planned for 2024. Historically, Valiant have come up with some bangers in the past …but which one tops the rest?
Speak now or forever hold your peace!
*If anyone from Alien reads this then the events listed are the bar you should be aiming for!

Mexico City was destroyed in Armor Hunters. I was told it was because of me. What's the subtext of that?!?
In VH 1, penguins were almost extinct because of the battle between Phil Seleski and Doctor Solar.
Does that make Mexicans the VEI version of penguins?

Man, this is hard! All four of these are S-tier imo.
That said, I voted for VH1 Unity. It's perfect imo. It naturally flows out of an ongoing story, everyone has something interesting to do, and the story comes together nicely in the end.

If Unity doesn’t win in a landslide, I’d be surprised, but my second vote would be for Harbinger Wars. Love everything from Josh Dysart.

I was so torn between Armour Hunters and Harbinger Wars. I wish this was a poll where you could vote twice, I bet we'd see very different results.BugsySig wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 8:44 am If Unity doesn’t win in a landslide, I’d be surprised, but my second vote would be for Harbinger Wars. Yes I’m re-reading Harbinger Wars now and it’s such a great event. My vote went to Armour Hunters but it was close.syzhang28 wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:26 pmI was so torn between Armour Hunters and Harbinger Wars. Unity is a no brainer, but Armor Hunters and Harbinger Wars were both incredible. Was never really feeling The Valiant, but admittedly I was in the middle of checking out of Valiant completely when it came out.

Not sure The Valiant even counts as an Event. It was really just an EW miniseries. No tie ins or multiple book cross-overs.Tim wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 2:59 pm Unity is a no brainer, but Armor Hunters and Harbinger Wars were both incredible. Two things:
1. This poll is invalid per forum rules as there is no ice cream option.
2. How dare you leave out the best event ever - Deathmate!

It contained pretty all of the Valiant U characters (which was totally unnecessary IMO) so I think that’s why it’s considered an ‘event’.BugsySig wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:39 pmNot sure The Valiant even counts as an Event. Re: Let’s settle this once and for all …BEST VALIANT EVENT!
I didn't get to Armour Hunters and HW1 and I know I read some of The Valiant but I don't have much memory. Would be interesting to see a poll just between those if they're considered the best VEI crossovers.
Then a separate ranking between the VH1 crossovers, although I'm pretty sure the order would be easy to predict.
1. Unity
2. Chaos Effect
3. Deathmate
Some might flip Deathmate and CE. I'm not sure I'd have to re-read them, Deathmate had some cool parts.

Best crossover event ever in all of comics?
1. Secret Wars - the classic that started it all, huge impact still being felt today.
2. Unity - the evolution of Secret Wars, perfected it imo. Only number 2 because the cultural impact wasn't as high as SW and maybe not as accessible to a casual reader.
3. Infinity Gauntlet - The way Starlin planted the seeds in Silver Surfer and Thanos Quest and the execution of the mini-series were masterful.
What others should be on the list?

Oh yeah, peak DMG dross, totally erased that from my memory. Where they let an editor who’d never written a book before ‘practice’ on all of Valiant’s charactersBugsySig wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 11:42 amSo did Doctor TomorrowDallow Spicer1 wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 11:27 pmIt contained pretty all of the Valiant U characters (which was totally unnecessary IMO) so I think that’s why it’s considered an ‘event’.BugsySig wrote: Thu Apr 04, 2024 5:39 pmNot sure The Valiant even counts as an Event. Should’ve done a ‘worst event’ poll.

I still maintain that if there’s a majority of universe characters in a multi issue book then it’s an event.

Unity is one of the best comic events ever, never mind Valiant events. Very few events are as well planned out and written as Unity.

Re: Let’s settle this once and for all …BEST VALIANT EVENT!
I think Unity benefitted from being the culmination of a young, developing line of comics, and one that was plotted with the Unity crossover in mind. Starting from (almost) scratch, continuity wise, fewer than 60 issues built up to a wide-ranging, eight-title crossover. That kind of planning kept loose ends down and organically positions characters where they need to be. Few crossovers benefit from that kind of forethought and positioning.
None of which takes away from the quality of Unity as a crossover.

With this in mind, was Defiant's Schism looking to be on par?Chiclo wrote: Mon Apr 15, 2024 3:50 pm I think Unity benefitted from being the culmination of a young, developing line of comics, and one that was plotted with the Unity crossover in mind. Schism would have had many of the same benefits but no guarantee that it would be on par with Unity.1st Among Equals wrote: Mon Apr 22, 2024 1:16 pmWith this in mind, was Defiant's Schism looking to be on par?Chiclo wrote: Mon Apr 15, 2024 3:50 pm I think Unity benefitted from being the culmination of a young, developing line of comics, and one that was plotted with the Unity crossover in mind. Could have happened, though. Makes you think.
