My original art holy grail
Say what you want about Frank Miller, but this image is emblazoned on my mind and was a seminal turning point for my relationship with comics back in the 80s. It is arguably one of the greatest story arcs in superhero comics, and is certainly a favorite among folks not just of my age, but also my teenage kids. I'd love to own a Robert Crumb, or some other seminal artists, but this is probably the Frank Miller piece I would want to see on my wall.

That is indeed a grail fo sho!! Maybe if I empty all my saving and retirement accounts and sell a kidney and all the comics and art I've ever collected and combine it with your money, we might get the fourth highest bid? Maybe... you think?

Mid-80s is peak for Frank. The later Sin City stories can get a bit too blocky for me. I still love it, but mid 80s and early Sin City Frank is genius level.

Where do you predict it will end?nycjadie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 5:08:35 pm Say what you want about Frank Miller, but this image is emblazoned on my mind and was a seminal turning point for my relationship with comics back in the 80s. Six figures. That’s my guess. How far, I don’t know!greg wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 9:38:34 pmWhere do you predict it will end?nycjadie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 5:08:35 pm Say what you want about Frank Miller, but this image is emblazoned on my mind and was a seminal turning point for my relationship with comics back in the 80s. Final price on this piece was $210K.
Compare to $26,400 for this Miller piece:

Re: My original art holy grail
Just saw this post. Not owning any original art, I don’t know how it’s valued or buyers and sellers come up with a price. I understand the importance and rarity, but for me to spend 200k on something comic related I’d put that into a copy of Batman 1 or a comparable book.
I saw there was a lawsuit over this piece, it must have been resolved for this sale to close. Does anyone know how it ended up?

Interesting. I looked up the case and it was settled under confidential terms.

The cover to Marvel US The Transformers #5, Dreadstar #1 and Infinity Gauntlet #1 are my holy grails I know I'll never get to own them but a guy always can dream.

Re: My original art holy grail
Oh man… that TF #5 Shockwave painting would indeed be a mighty grail piece to land! I have a single page of art from issue #30 & also one from #51, but they are not especially cool pages in their own right… I’m just happy to have *something* from a TF comic though.Cyberstrike wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 4:33:41 pm The cover to Marvel US The Transformers #5, Dreadstar #1 and Infinity Gauntlet #1 are my holy grails I know I'll never get to own them but a guy always can dream.

Did you see Batman as front or rear facing when leaping? I never knew there was even a debate until recently.nycjadie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 5:08:35 pm Say what you want about Frank Miller, but this image is emblazoned on my mind and was a seminal turning point for my relationship with comics back in the 80s. The one on the left looks proper.
The cape looks to me like thats what would happen to an actual cape if someone was jumping down.
The one on the right looks more like something with wings was going straight right and Batman was attached to it.
