Wanted: Top 100 Comics scans - 1991-1992...

Post by greg »

If anyone has the early issues of Wizard, and a scanner...
I need a scan of the Top 100 page (Diamond Sales Lists).

Here's an example from Wizard #13:

Image

I need the scans for Wizard #1 through Wizard #19, and they need
to be clear enough to read the fine print for the comics listed.

Thanks!

Greg

P.S. Actually, I'm not sure that there is a Top 100 list in earlier issues,
but I'd like to have a scan if there is.

I have all of the early Wizard issues Greg ... hopefully I kept them all. I know I have at least the first years worth - I will take a look tonight or this weekend if at all possible, and start scanning.

Sure, that would work, too.

I'll post on this thread when I've received the pages
so that others won't have to duplicate the effort. :)

Found Wizards 1-12 ... I think my copies of 13+ are still bagged. #1 doesn''t have a top 100 like you listed, but they start in issue #2.

I don't have any OTR software to pull the text if that is what you are looking for, but I will scan very high definition copies for you tonight when I get back from class if they are still needed.

It would work either way... image or text.
There aren't many Valiant issues in the early lists anyway. :)

Thanks for this info... it's very helpful.

I'm looking for the Top 100 lists to help me with the print run estimates. The order that the books appear in the Top 100 should also be the
order of the print runs for that month
(so that I can make adjustments to our estimates).

Also, comparing to Marvel or DC books where the print runs
are known could be helpful for Valiant.

Thanks again... looking forward to the Top 100's!

Greg I just sent you scans of Wizard 5-12. I could not find Wizard 1-4. It would be easier if we could chat online or on the phone and I could just look up stuff for you as needed.

Let me know if that will work for you.

Wow, great info x-omatic, interesting to read. 7 out of top 10 hot books, amazing! The good old days!!!

Greg, not sure what dimentions you were looking for, I scanned at 72 dpi (anything else is wasted on-screen!) and at 200% of original size. Wrote .JPG at highest quality. Hopefully they are not too troublesome for you to view. If so, I can alter. They are a little hefty in size for dialup.

I have Wizards #'s 2-4 scanned, there was not a top100 report in issue #1. In issue #4 there were a few interesting things that I scanned.

http://www.yeichner.com/valiant <--- there you go.

Let me know if I can help any other way!

Bloodshot 1 ranking

Post by VanHook »

Out of curiousity, which Diamond ranking did Bloodshot 1 hit? (Books shipping November 1992--so probably a Wizard issue with a January/February 1993 kinda date.)

I thought we were number two, but you're quoting Rai 9 as being the first to break the top 10. Maybe my memory is Diamond and Capital combined. Or just plain wrong.

Superman's death beat us out, I know that. Same day. November 17th.

that's funny...i didn't "plan ahead" with the superman 75, figuring i could just pick it up...my MOM actually drove by a comic store that had a line going out the door. she convinced my dad (i wasn't living at home btw  ) to stop, she found out they were selling superman 75 at cover price. she bought 3 copies, 1 for each of her sons. a few days later i went into a store and bought my first valiant off the shelf-bloodshot #1 for $6!

That would be Wizard #17's list. Sorry, I don't have that one yet...
I still need the scans for Wizard #14 - #17...
and then probably a few in the #20's range.

Wow. God, that brings back memories.

What a short, sweet, bumpy ride it was.

Hard to believe that Supes #75, with a print run of 4 million+, STILL sells for more than cover price on eBay.

Greg, I don't remember them being in the first couple issues, but it's been a long time.

I have a number 23, with the preview of Deathmate. Need that one? :-) PM if so

Me too :) Now I'm happy if I make it once or twice a month . . . at least they hold stuff for me . . .

If you count ebay though . . . then I am at the comic shop every day . . . :D

What I find most frightening about the above lists is Turok # 1 only being the 6th most-ordered book its month of release.

What were the five books that outsold it?

Turok # 1 came out in April 1993 - arguably the single month that killed more comic book shops than any other.

The books that outsold it? The return of Superman books.

Adventures of Superman # 500
Action Comics # 687
Superman # 78
Man of Steel # 22
Adventures of Superman # 501

Per Comic Chron, 7 books issued that month had print runs of over 1 million copies (Deathblow # 1 was the 7th) - and 27 books had print runs in excess of 400,000 copies.

To this day, it's supposedly the biggest month in the history of comic books (by dollar sales).

And precipitated the crash.
