Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
I don’t know the writers on this and not convinced by the art choice however I do like that it will be aimed at mature readers so will be giving this a go.
Here’s the blurb…
Bloodshot Unleashed will feature the hero in his first mature series from Deniz Camp, Jon Davis-Hunt, Jordie Bellaire, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The series will feature the titular character journeying across the United States to stop living weapons who break out of a top-secret facility. The uber-violent series will focus on Bloodshot stopping the living weapons while possibly redeeming them just as he previously was.

It is a great cover, is that Davis-Hunt? If so I’m up for that artSunlight on Snow wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 4:55:33 am Awesome cover......is this a homage to some Punisher cover?!?
Not sure about the Punisher homage, hopefully it’s an original as I think homage covers are played out.

Yes, JDH's signature is in the lower left corner; slightly above the Valiant logo.Dallow Spicer1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:24:43 am It is a great cover, is that Davis-Hunt? If so I’m up for that art

It's probably not meant to be a homage but it could have still been inspired by the following Punisher MAX cover which would make sense because of the "For Mature Readers Only." This is certainly the one I had in mind:

The Unleashed logo is pretty cool as well.

This cover art looks great. Could Valiant be pulling it together?
Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
Yes, that promo piece is by interior artist Jon Davis-Hunt (he also did the colors on this piece, but the colors on interiors will be by Jordie Bellaire) and no, this was not intended to be a Punisher homage... just something that lives up to the promise of the title!

I think all three of these sound great tbh, but we're still stuck on 3 issues-per-month. Just give us four damn it!

I’ll take three good ones, or even two out of three good ones, a month over two stinkers a month.TheFerg714 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 8:36:30 pm I think all three of these sound great tbh, but we're still stuck on 3 issues-per-month. Just give us four damn it!

Definitely quality over quantity. I’m buying zero garbage books per month…I will buy 1,2,3 or more quality books.Chiclo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 1:18:34 pmI’ll take three good ones, or even two out of three good ones, a month over two stinkers a month.TheFerg714 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 8:36:30 pm I think all three of these sound great tbh, but we're still stuck on 3 issues-per-month. Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
I'm really not sure if I'm being stupid here, but I'm pretty confused as to why this new series of BS is supposed to be for 'mature readers'.
Based on the content of all the previous series, with the huge amounts of gore, killing and swearing involved, I would have thought that ALL the previous series were for mature audiences: after all, that's not something I'd be giving little kids to read. I'm not sure what this series is likely to do differently that will make it 'for mature audiences'? Maybe Bloodshot whops his big white dick out or something?

Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
I agree, Bloodshot has always (VEI) had a “for mature readers” vibe to it. I guess now, it’s official, and they can push the envelope a bit, who knows. Either way, I’m a Davis-Hunt fan, I like his art and actually wish he was still on Shadowman. What’s been announced so far about the actual story, doesn’t really excite me, but will see how it go.

Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
why'd they go with Ray Garrison and abandon Angelo Mortalli?

Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
Mortalli was a character who was a former mafia hitman, probably influenced by Goodfellas in the early 1990s.
Garrison (believing himself to be a former U.S. soldier) would have matched well to the hero sentiment of the early 2010s with the successful hunt for Bin Laden. Those U.S. flag images of Bloodshot in 2012 would be a little less "sincere" if he was really a mafia hitman pretending to be a (reprogrammed) hero.
Ultimately, though, I always figured any character associated with Bloodshot would eventually be shown to be a false memory, and we'd never really know who he was.

Re: Bloodshot relaunching as mature reader book
Because they re-read the 90s version and realized the whole mob thing was tired? It was played out then too, with Bloodshot moving onto Michael Lazarus and doing interesting stuff before Moretti returned and went backwards with the character.
The Garrison name is actually what was used more often than not in the Acclaim run. Not that that was a good run, but VEI didn't pull it out of thin air.

+1 - I'm a fan of JDH's work from Shadowman... this promo image looks really great and I second the idea of making it a cover at some point!Sunlight on Snow wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:35:49 pmWell, make sure this will be on one of the covers....Gregg-K wrote: ↑Tue Feb 22, 2022 10:59:14 am Yes, that promo piece is by interior artist Jon Davis-Hunt (he also did the colors on this piece, but the colors on interiors will be by Jordie Bellaire) and no, this was not intended to be a Punisher homage... just something that lives up to the promise of the title!
