Chaos Effect Alpha Red

Post by David_Cody »

This little beauty has been on my radar for years, but could never afford the $300 asking price.
I was perusing Ebay the other day and found a raw, NM copy for $150.
Well I got the comic today and the copy is FLAWLESS!
I think this baby is destined to be CGC'd sometime soon to be a 9.8

What you don't know, is that this comic has been my "Holy Grail" comic for a lot of years.
I still haven't placed it in my Valiant long box yet.
I have it sitting on my couch and just pick it up from time to time to admire it.

I talked to a collector who bought dozens of copies at San Diego Comic-Con 1994 and he recently had them CGC graded. Until I saw those appear on the CGC Census, I had never heard of anyone with more than a couple original copies.

The supply is larger today, since he did get his graded and is starting to sell them off... but it's fair to keep Chaos Effect Alpha Red identified as one of the lowest printed original Valiant books.

I had the 1,000,000th post on this board and all I got was this lousy custom ranking.

I think it’s the only non-VSS issue that I don’t own. They don’t come up often and certainly not for bargain basement prices which is what I seek out.

Thanks, Greg.

I always thought that this issue was rare hence to price, but didn't realize that it was the lowest print run.
That's pretty cool. Next on my list is an A&A 0 Gold. They go for about $150 on eBay.
I am VERY close to completing my complete Valiant collection.

I have two, but they probably wouldn't grade at 9.8.

This one is definitely killing me. One of the last special issues I need.

Congrats!

There's also the sort-of-official signed version:

Chaos Effect Red Alpha signed by Bernard Chang with Retailer Letter.

I have a terrible good copy I bought for a song. I don’t know who treated it so poorly or why, but I had to give it a good home.
