Movie Madness - Record Setting Prices on VEI (DMG) books
Is the upcoming Bloodshot movie starting to have an impact on the prices of some books?
While I think the market in general has been quite soft to very soft for VEI books the two DMG Chinese books had record setting prices today. I personally do not really get the attraction of these translated comics or why these two books are considered so much better than all the other WH1 books that had translated copies (and yes I know these two DMG books were just used at a press event in China). Also compared to some incentive Valiant books they do not seem that rare, relatively speaking, in 9.8.
Harbinger 1 DMG Chinese edition went for $1,291.66 (8 sales in the last 2 years with an average selling price of $756.63) A 71% Premium
Bloodshot 1 DMG Chinese edition went for $1,235 (8 sales in the last two years with an average selling price of $862.88).A 43% Premium
You can see their previous selling prices in 2018 & 2019 were a lot lower.

I only noticed the auctions as I picked up two 1:50 incentive covers in CGC 9.8 from the same seller for $40 each which continues the downward trend of regular VEI variant covers.

That really surprise s me to be honest. I know the books are hard to come by so I thought they would have been higher than that honestly. Yes all the variants (when sold) seem under priced to me. I see many priced right (or even high) on eBay. I guess that’s why they are there though right? Lol

Re: Movie Madness - Record Setting Prices on VEI (DMG) books
The sale prices are kind of bananas. I would have expected more from the DMG books, and the prices on variants have plummeted. While there are some great record-breaking sales, the bottom has dropped on so many others. Those Britannia 1:50 books used to command quite high prices raw. Now, $40 for a 9.8? That's really terrible.
A Harbinger 1 9.8 went for $610, which is the lowest I recall seeing for some time.
I bought the original cover for Geomancer 4 over the weekend for $225. I know it's not a flagship title, but I would expect $450 to be low for that item.

Me neither. There's a huge DMG logo on it.magnus20009 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:38:48 pm I personally do not really get the attraction of these translated comics...
Don't these books symbolize the beginning of the end? But maybe that's what makes them so attractive?

Everything Valiant based on Ebay has been soft. I'm happy to see that maybe some strength could be coming back to a few comics, but I won't be holding out too much hope. I did happen to snag a The Valiant #3 1:50 9.8 for decently cheap. Now I gotta track down Matt Kindt and Jeff Lemire again, and hope that neither smudges their signature, lol

Re: Movie Madness - Record Setting Prices on VEI (DMG) books
Fact is that there are only a few types of buyers in the VEI collector game.
1. Those who have been on-board for the past few years and place an emotional investment/value on these books. We likely know post of the people who fall into this category.
2. Those who are NOT emotionally invested in VEI; HOWEVER, they are reasonably wealthy, enjoy playing the comic speculation and flipping game, and are always looking for a potential win. Many of these have vanished over the past two years, which is reflected in the market drop.
3. Those who are recently interested in VEI, and are compelled to play "catch up" with the key, rare, and HTF issues.
4. Those who will watch the Bloodshot movie this week, and then look at eBay out of curiosity.

All four types need to be "reasonably wealthy" to play whatever game; regardless of their motivation.

Re: Movie Madness - Record Setting Prices on VEI (DMG) books
I wonder if the DMG variants are going to US collectors, or Chinese. Keepings politics out of it, there's been an explosion of wealth in CHina recently. Luxury goods, high end electronics like iPhones, and collectibles such as fine wine and whiskey are huge markets there. Perhaps comics are becoming one and these are part of that?

I have a Bloodshot and Harbinger 9.8. Might be willing to part with Bloodshot if anyone interested.

I still don't get these DMG books but the OCD comlpetist in me makes it hard for me to ignore them.
I just picked up the Harbinger 1 CGC 9.8 for $1,000 so that is another sale to report
