Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?
I'm listening to the podcast Get Valiant! #124 (sorry Chiclo) and they discussed getting an old copy of classic Valiant Legend of Zelda #1
Got me thinking. It hurts

I've been looking everywhere for the ultra-rare Turok vs Blister issue. Anybody able to help me out?

Re: Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?
Those books do seem to get better with age, but VH1 (specifically pre-Unity Valiant) is "Valiant Heroes 1". Licensed Nintendo, wrestling, and food products paid some of the bills for Valiant to create the Valiant Universe. They're not technically part of it, kind of like Spider-Man Hostess fruit pie and cupcake stories aren't Marvel Universe.
I like 'em, but they're different.

Re: Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?
I agree with this. The licensed books are very distinct from the hero books. If you use VH1 to refer to just the heroes then they obviously are not part of that universe. If you look at it for short hand for the first incarnation of Valiant publishing then the books are part of the original Valiant publisher.greg wrote:Those books do seem to get better with age, but VH1 (specifically pre-Unity Valiant) is "Valiant Heroes 1". Of course I have OCD which is why I am trying to get everything Valiant published and everything Acclaim published (although only raw for Acclaim).
I even have 51 of the 52 Classics Illustrated they published I know I need help

- Especially "dude." And "balls." Those terms work in the tech industry.

I understand that one of those Classic Illustrated is stupidly rare.

We used to call the Nintendo/WWF books "Pre-Hero" back in the day, as an homage to the Marvel Silver Age term.

If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.
Re: Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?
I used to ignore them but recently I've come to appreciate them. If you're a fan of Pre-Unity Valiant it's cool to see the genesis of the 'Pre-Unity style': fixed grid layouts, clear storytelling over flashy artwork, bright watercolor coloring, a mix of industry veterans (Ditko, Gray Morrow, Nichols, Layton, Stan Drake) and young newcomers like Lapham and some of the Knob row people. It's really cool to see how they then applied that same formula to the more mature superhero line and became a sensation for a time. Even though the stories are aimed at a younger audience, they're still solid and fun. To be honest at this point in my life I prefer the Nintendo/WWF era stuff to a lot of what's come out of Valiant since Unity.

Re: Hmm....is the real old Nintendo Valiants called VH1 too?
The is also some BWS art and one of the Captain N's is Quesada's first work. They have above average stories since Shooter, if he did not write them himself, had his iron fist looming over the whole operation. I gave my kids the hardcovers and they were read repeatedly.Ryan wrote:I used to ignore them but recently I've come to appreciate them.
