Which lines of comics might be optioned for movies?

Everything else comic-related that's not VALIANT-related.

Which lines of comics might be optioned for movies?

Post by StarBrand »

With the Valiant line of comics being optioned for movies and now the Atlas/Seaboard line (from the 70s) following suit, I’m wondering which other lines will be as well. I would think Defiant and certain Gold Key titles might happen at some point.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

I’m surprised Marvel/Disney hasn’t tapped into CrossGen, Malibu or Ultraverse yet (even though there’s some rights issues in some cases). Star brand has been used a lot more in the 616 continuity recently and would be interesting to see something New Universe related given how Endgame explores the multiverse concept.

I'm surprised WB hasn't strayed into the Wildstorm section of their titles or working out a deal with Milestone, since that's one of the reasons Milestone stays with DC,

Given the success of Black Panther it would be crazy not to tap into Milestone. As long as it’s better than Black Lightning (which started off well enough then really dropped off.)

I think in the coming years most popular Vertigo titles will eventually get made into movies/tv shows, ie Sandman, Fables, etc.

Fables would be a great mini-series on a cable network or something like Netflix. They could 3-4 seasons easy on the comics alone, might stretch that out a bit with some new writing as well.

I would freakin' *love* to see Starbrand and/or other New U characters make an MCU appearance!

Reading the Wild Storm series and spin offs, it feels like Warren Ellis is blue-printing for web-television appeal.

A Star Brand and Night Mask animated feature/show based on the latest 616 incarnation would work pretty well.

Considering there is already *some* mass awareness of Comics' Greatest World because of the Barb Wire movie, that family of books might work well for a media company looking for content for a streaming service

Good point about Barb Wire. That would be awesome if this universe got another movie or two made.

Impact Comics would make a great CGI animated universe. Only a handful of properties, all colorful and sort of fun. Geared towards kids like Big Hero 6.

Planetary should be a series. It was Ellis' best writing - hands down.

Agreed, whether animated or not. They've been around long enough that there might be some awareness of them by people that don't currently read comics.

The Rivers of London book series (also comic series published by Titan, written by the writer of the novels, so the comics are in continuity) is being developed by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for television. They're great books and worth a read. (The novels at least; I haven't read the comics yet.) I would love to see a crossover with Shadowman. The series is about a cop in the London police that discovers that magic is real and gets assigned to a division that deals with magical incidents.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Pretty much the *last* thing I would want to see happen with something New U related, haha! It would probably be appealing to a young audience and all that, but not anything I'd want to watch.
