Well, that kind of came out of left field. But, it would seem he was an insider by the loot he sold.
I don't remember if it was that seller, but I do remember a seller that had a few high spec books (Harbinger 3 incentive, etc.) that clearly showed a bit of damage, so I always assumed they were in some way tied to damaged returns, since it would be odd for someone to have so many desirable books in so bad a condition.
I think this is more likely. They were not in good condition. Or it was someone who bought a lot of rare books from an insider and kept the higher grade stuff for himself.
ch33yu13en7 was the person selling those books, and some were quite high-end (a couple of different 9.8 DMG's, Shadowman 5 and 13's etc).

You're right, there aren't many out there now, all swallowed up by the masses, and we may never have a solid number regarding those books. I am sure we will see a handful of these pop up after the first trailer drops (NYCC?)

I have all the Ebay records.

Ebay seller ch33yu13en7:

- had multiple copies of unreleased exclusives from NYCC
- had multiple copies of DMG Chinese books
- included print run estimates (unknown to collectors) in the auction descriptions
- Ebay sales recorded from September 2017 to December 2018
- had no Ebay activity from mid-April 2018 through June 2018, or October 2018 through late-November 2018 (Dinesh was not in L.A. most of that time)

Highlights of what ch33yu13en7 sold in those 275 auctions (280+ items):
10 copies of Savage #1 1:50 variant
9 copies of Divinity #0 Warped Tour variant

2 copies of X-O Manowar #15 - Kotaki Error - Quantum & Woody interior
Valiant 2017 Book Catalog - unknown to collectors, described as "a very rare book that I have never seen for sale. I don't know where this was given out if it was ever released. It contains information about many of the Valiant characters and titles."

So there was a point where Trey over at the CBSI group made a number of accusations about this sort of thing. At one point I was named as somehow having an inside relationship and doing exactly this (I didn’t of course, and my eBay store sales records clearly indicate as much lol. NOTE: I’m an original art guy, which is a completely different animal and game than the modern comic sales game. For original art, yup, I have an incredible network of artist and the like).

I would not be shocked though (based on the clear data trends Greg just posted) if someone inside or deeply connected with Valiant during the past few years was in fact selling product (damaged or otherwise) to the market.

I guess the way to “know” would be to see if the aforementioned seller randomly STOPS selling errors and/or crazy rare books released AFTER the DMG takeover in early 2018.

IF this were true, then it is likely that the DMG takeover ended whatever inside access that might have existed prior to that time (2012-2018) in which case the seller would have no books/variants/errors released AFTER the DMG takeover.

Bottom line, the (hypothetical) Forgotten Queen #4 (Error) NEVER released in 2019 would NOT be sold by this seller, as he/she simply would never have had access to them (beyond what you or I might naturally have).

I don't know if Dinesh would just say "Yes, I was selling some of my extras since there were collectors who still needed them" but that seems like the most likely scenario. I don't know what "accusations" would be valid, since he's obviously allowed to sell books just like anyone else. He may have gotten complimentary copies without hand-picking them, so they would just be whatever condition he was given.

I don't buy the "someone with access to damaged copies" argument since there were multiple copies of books that were never distributed. Insider? Definitely. But where's the justification for "accusations" (whatever they were)?

ALL publishers provide "Comp Books" to employees, artists, writers, etc.

Pretty sure they are allowed to sell those "Comp Books" to whomever, whenever, and however they choose.

So it is 100% likely that someone inside Valiant would receive "Comp Books" and sell them. Why wouldn't they?

Never mind that the buyer and/or market sets the value (a book is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay).

I loved all those auctions on eBay! I was finally able to get all those Ghost books I needed lol.

I was really lucky to jump in on "Dinesh's ICONS Era" as a collector it was perfect timing.

Exactly. My guesses (and data behind those guesses) are meant to say that whatever the story of ch33yu13en7 is, sales of rare and unreleased books are legit when they're connected with a legit source. There is no higher legit source than Dinesh himself.

If anyone has accused Dinesh of anything, they're nuts because anything Dinesh does with his own Valiant stuff is as legit as it gets, and as you pointed out, the ch33yu13en7 auctions started low and let the market decide.

If it's someone else selling unreleased books, then I would say it's only legit if they have Dinesh's permission. Unreleased books aren't supposed to be in the market by definition, so they're like bootleg videos if you don't have permission from the legit (and highest) source.

Finally, anyone who knows Dinesh knows he has given away so many books through the years that even IF (and it's an IF) he wanted to sell some, it would take a lot more than 275 auctions to make a dent in the generosity he shows. Even the auctioned items are another kind of generosity since the starting prices were low and bidders were getting books they really wanted at the price they set. Instead of holding the only known copies of some books, Dinesh gave them away or IF (and it is IF) he auctioned them, big Valiant fans he might never meet self-identity by winning the books.

Bottom line: I've known Dinesh 15 years, and anyone who says he's part of some unscrupulous Valiant activity is nuts. I was guessing (hoping, to be honest) that ch33yu13en7 was fully legit with Dinesh's permission, because that's the highest level of "Valiant legit" there is.

Several of the Valiant insiders had up to 5 copies of very rare books like the unreleased or error copies. It might be Dinesh. There is at least one other of those people that I know of in CA. Could be any one of those people helping out a friend with some extra cash.

Well, the Comichron number for Harbinger #2 (2012) is 17,239 (with 2,000 confirmed Braithwaite 1:20).

The Comichron number for Harbinger #3 (2012) is 15,482 (that is 1,757 fewer copies than for issue #2). So, the Harbinger #3 Zircher 1:20 print run, in my opinion, is likely to be 2,000 as well...or slightly less).

The Comichron number for Harbinger #3 (2012) is 15,482 (that is 1,757 fewer copies than for issue #2). So, the Harbinger #3 Zircher 1:20 print run, in my opinion, is likely to be 2,000 as well...or slightly less).
One might think; yet, where are they? Lol!
Well, I can tell you where *mine* are, and they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

How many are you hoarding? (Ha,ha)

I don't ever see any of the #2 1:20s for sale either. If there are soooo many of these.... where are they?

Is it possible that most of these (Harbinger #2 and #3 1:20s) were just put on the comic racks and sold for $3.99 with the regular cover A issues?

I think I have 3. The first I paid maybe $20 for, but the others were expensive when people started to take notice of Livewire. I paid a little over $100 for a copy that might press to a 9.8, and about the same price for a CGC 9.6.

Doubtful that the books were put out with the regular issues in any mass quantities. If they destroyed extras, they may have printed 2000 but destroyed unearned copies. Or given them away as gifts

Nice collecting with the Zircher #3s!

Do ya'll really think there are a lot more of the Harbinger #2 1:20s potentially out there in the market (than the #3 1:20)? I don't ever see either one.

Maybe more of these #2s were instantly hoarded because of the known first appearance of Darpan? If that is the case could more of these turn up later on if people decide to sell (as compared to an apparent depleted stock of #3 1:20s)?

I think if the movies get good attention and Valiant prices in general begin to rise, we'll learn quickly how available many of the books actually are.

How do people currently feel about the longevity of Valiant rare issues, first appearances given the current trajectory of the company and the fact that Dino is no longer in charge? Confident? Less confident than 12 months ago? Anyone care to predict what the future may hold? :? :hm:

I am 100% confident that for the rest of my life that I will collect (and pay for) the books/variants that I remember fondly from this time period.

Will this be true (for me) of books/variants released in 2021? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

But Harbinger Wars, Armor Hunters, Divinity, Imperium, and The Life and Death of Toyo Harada will NOT change in the future as they have already been written.

In fact, if Valiant died today, it might be even harder to find what I want due to limited interest, which could increase prices for specific rare/key books.

Speculators (the fly by night type) will hold zero loyalty, as they tend to do. But a few life-long collectors will.
