I’m hoping he either does something entirely new, or does a new story about one of the other incarnations. Kind of had enough new stories about Hunter, but of course I will enjoy a new tale about him regardless, if that’s what Matt is doing.

Just wanted to say that I updated the first post, with my simpleton thoughts on the Eppy Thatcher chapter. :thumb:

But I mostly wanted to ask if there's a link I can follow to read more on the new Grendel project that Matt is working. Thanks! :high-five:

Eppy. Freakin’ Eppy!!! :high-five:

Now I just gotta get ya the final story you’re missing... about the rise of the first Grendel-Khan, and a little place known as Grendel’s Palace... :thumb:

Oh, also meant to say... I haven’t heard any further word on the hinted-at new Grendel story yet. But Mage is now very close to being complete (1 more issue to go), so here’s hoping we’ll hear something new very soon!

Here is *something* new that might be of interest though - Matt’s son Brennan has done a digital pin-up of Hunter Rose, and prints of this piece are available on his website;

Man, that print is beautiful. :o
Kinda like a contemporary Hunter, with the zipped-up jacket and the overcoat making for a more modern look.

I just re-read War Child again this week - still so damn good, 25 years later.

I've also found a lead on some original art pages from this series, trying to decide if I can afford them!!

I re-read Grendel: Past Prime by Greg Rucka a week or so ago, after re-reading War Child. Still a great novel, I think it holds up very well in fact!

I will say this though - my initial impression of a Grendel In Space story is one of some mild skepticism... I think it will end up being just as great as all the rest of the series has ever been, but it does seem like an odd choice to make a space opera out of a book largely grounded in a future that is mostly a fractured & devastated, post-apocalyptic earth setting.

Regardless, I am very excited for it.

Duuude, this thread eluded me for a bit, it seems, haven't hanging out n these parts (I have been mostly reading actual books and gaming a bit, as we discussed in other thread). I am now halfway through the final chapter. It is another "completely different from the previous story" story. 8-) Freaking vampires, this is how they are made scary and disgusting. Loving it, reading it very slowly since the presentation demands it (at least for me) and there is so much to absorb. Orion is the guy with "more dimentions" as a Grendel, I do think. It does feel like I'm reading about a real world man, not the druggie Eppy or daredevil magnifique Hunter. Not depressed Brian or "f it, I'm full on crazy since I have nothing more left" Christine.
Guy is like a perfected version of the flame that drives Grendel, the one that makes fanatics worship the G.
Deep read, will post my final thoughts on the 1st post for anyone caring to read.

I have to say that I'm also sad that it is over.

And I also have to say that I expect the next series to be anything but what we might expect. Might be the newish fan in me but I am still completely in awe of everything that MW did with this creation. I have yet to develop the "this better be good and do justice to Prime" stage :D but I am seriously hyped for this comic since its the continuation of the story. Its much more exciting than a new Hunter series, i also agree. There's enough amazing Hunter Rose comics, and i think Prime is the only one left that had a "to be continued... maybe?" ending :?. I'm just waiting to be floored by it, and I am sure it will not be just Grendel with space suits and stupid crazy guns (although, gives us some of that, Mr Wagner, please!!). I think that the story will be unlike anything before, because that's how the guy does comics, but it might be so out there it may turn peeps off as well.

Can't wait for it. But I am on "Making of the Khan" now, so I can be patient a little while more.

JD, THANK YOU man. Just huge THANK YOU. :high-five:

Dude, I'm very glad you've enjoyed the Grendel Saga so much, it makes it totally worth it to have helped you get the Comico run & Warchild :D

That last part of the Comico run had me wanting to play in an RPG game set in/around that era of the future when I read it - it had so much rich extra detail about how the world was at that time... of course, the best sandbox to play an RPG in would likely be the post-Khan era of all the Grendel Tales, but still.

Speaking of which, I wish there were still more Grendel tales being done by other creators in the Grendel Prime era!

DUDES... the original art page that this image is from was up for auction on eBay about a week or so ago! I couldn't afford it or I would have snagged it for sure. There were two other pages from this particular sequence, and there also was also a damn cool Eppy Thatcher-era page on there too. Heartbroken that the timing was bad for me to try & nab one...

Anyone here reading Devil's Odyssey yet?
I'm loving this, even if it only just started, 2 issues out. :D
Its a beautiful looking comic (great work by MW and son) and story-wise is completely different from anything Grendel that came before, as it was expected. I don't know how to put it, but it just fits the Prime story, perfectly.

I have both issues and am just waiting for the right time to read them. I thought of you when these came out, as I know you are a huge Grendel fan like me. Can’t wait to chat over the whole series.

Same here, and its intriguing to me that so far, 2 issues in and I still am sort of clueless to where this might head.

I most certainly have been reading Grendel Odyssey, 'Tuga!! I was skeptical of this as a story arc for the series before reading it - Outer space exploration feels very out of place as a backdrop for such a mature, dark series set largely in a dystopian world that is constantly on the verge of social collapse. I'm still not convinced this is a good idea after reading two issues, but there are moments throughout that are cool regardless - and I remain hopeful that the series won't disappoint overall by the time it wraps up.

Its also just really awesome to be getting a new Grendel series by Matt after all this time anyway - you must be ecstatic to get to experience this as a fan, 'Tuga!!!

I am also becoming a big fan of his son's colour work, I'm glad he is working on the title with his father! I even got a little hooked on picking up variant covers for the 1st two issues, including one comic shop exclusive cover for #1 that was also signed by Matt!

A whole bunch of original art pages from Grendel: War Child surfaced on eBay back in October... they were all coming from Pat McKeown's own collection, for sale for the very first time in all these years since the comic was released!

I was in utter agony, as I couldn't afford any of them at the time - there were several great pages and a couple from my top favourite issue of that series too [#6].
