That IS indeed a great moment in the run, and it is just thrown out there. And DD is still joking because NY could not lose their blind protector or something. I love Miller's brand of humour.
Enjoy the rest, bud, there's some phenomenal superhero comicbook stuff in there.

Redneck was pretty good and will be added to my monthly titles. I'm in the minority who didn't really get blown away by God Country, but I really like how Cates has set up this series. Plus, Vampires > sci/fi fantasy stuff imo

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Got some FCBD stuff today and I was pleasantly surprised on Skottie Young's book. I really LOLed, even if I'm not reading 99% of the books referenced here. The bit with Rick was pretty freaking awesomely hilarious and I also loved the exchange with Spawn. Made me want to read "I hate Fairyland", it really did. Great score for Image.
I also picked the TMNT one (prelude to an adventure in Dimension X, and kinda explains "the series so far", sorta). Cool stuff, and it is original material also, but it is really thin.
The DC one (all-WW) was great, as this arc is really good in Rebirthing Diana. But it is nothing new, instead a reprint of issue 2, I think.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Just finished Stray from Action Lab. Really good, kinda old school but in a good way, great art. Wrapped up kinda quick, but at least the story was finished, and it will be returning later this year after a successful kickstarter.
Also read the Actionverse crossover with Stray, Midnight Tiger, Molly Danger, First Hero and Fracture. Real solid x-over with each issue focusing on one character's POV written and drawn by the individual creators. I hope to see more of this Universe in the future once I catch up with the other series.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Probably been said, but Marvel's Iron Fist is killing it right now through 3 issues. The current comic is what we all wish the show had been. The way the fight scenes are drawn is so cool, because it puts you right in the mix. This is actually the only non-Valiant title on my pull list.

Right now I'm just reading this board, but I'm about to take my first dip into manga with Attack on Titan Colossal edition.
I say "first dip", but I've previously read Tezuka's Buddha series and Ayako. I have a feeling those are not necessarily typical manga, but what do I know.

Let us know what you think. I only watched the anime and boy, it is deserving of the praise: a shonen that goes a bit too far when it comes to violence, but the twists and great story underneath it all will keep you in.possumgrease wrote:Right now I'm just reading this board, but I'm about to take my first dip into manga with Attack on Titan Colossal edition.

So i got some trade paperbacks on the latest con and I'm currently reading Godzilla in Hell. It's one of the fastest reads I've experienced since there's almost no dialogue since it involves godzilla traveling to different circles of hell while facing demonic versions of old enemies. The art in the first 2 issues are the best.

I read the first two trades of Invisible Republic and really enjoyed it. Hope they keep cranking this book out.

Picked up Beowulf trade by IDW in a bargain bin. Not bad, but reading this just proves to me even more how great the art in X-O really is.

I'm a fan of that comic too, but I'm way behind on it. Stopped getting individual issues after #6 and haven't been picking up trades or anything since.chriskay99 wrote:I read the first two trades of Invisible Republic and really enjoyed it. Hope they keep cranking this book out.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
7% from Red 5 comics. Interesting SciFi story that borrows from various tropes--achieving 100% brain power, a galaxy ruled by corporations, a city of rebellious humans--but combines them in an interesting way. Some solid world building and art I'd say is a poor-man's Clayton Crain. It's keeping my interest for sure.
Bigfoot: Sword of the Earthman from Action Lab. This book is crazy. It's like Conan meets John Carter meets World War Hulk, but with a Yeti. So basically it's awesome.
Intertwined from Dynamite. Kung Fu superhero fantasy set in the 70s/80s. The art is hit and miss. Story is OK, but the characters are not too compelling.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
just finished re-reading black summer by warren ellis. This is a straight up story with a lot of gore but it's great. Simply it's about the world's greatest hero killing the entire bush administration during the time this was written. Heard they were planning a movie and it could easily work today.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
Well, BD, i'm on the opposite situation :
started reading my first X-books since the "reboot", and I got to say that I'm pretty happy so far (read Gold 1-4 plus the X-Men Prime one-shot). Marvel did a wonderful job at the end of issue 1, with a summary of basically everything (major events) that has happened to the mutants since they were created. I only needed to read what had happened with Cyke and who's alive from the O5 (the "real", adult versions of them, not the time-displaced teens) to get me going, but it is very easy for a new reader to just dive in and enjoy the book, something that I only felt with Morrison's New X-Men: usually, it takes a big chunk of X-knowledge to understand the books in their entirety, but Marc Guggenheim writes the book for everyone.
Now, this is not the Greatest X-Book ever, but is damn fun and pushes all the right buttons (the "mutants and mankind" and the "family" aspects of the franchise). Seeing Kitty as the leader is wonderful, she is so well written here- I think everybody is, really. But Kitty has always been one of my top 5 X-Men, and seeing her yelling "to me, my x-men" is great comic book stuff to me. Loved it!!!!
The roster itself is something I could pick, 'cept for OML (I'd put The Real Wolverine in there), cause some of my favourite X-Men are there: Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Rachel (she goes by Prestige these days) and the two I mentioned, plus the occasional New Mutant/student like Armor and Rockslide.
I reccommend this to every X-men fan. Well worth the hype, at least this book. I'm also getting Astonishing, but that one starts in July only.

Re: What comics are you reading now?
I bought the Black Panther by Kirby Masterworks HC a while ago, and finally got around reading it.
While not the best work by the King, it is a fun ride. I mean, Samurai City and Hatch 22- C'mon, this is zany comics fun! The HC also contains the ending for Don Mcgregor's Panther's Rage saga (simply put, the definitive and greatest run on this character, imho) by Ed Hannigan and one issue by our own Jim Shooter, with the KKK and Windeagle stuff that was left hanging since Jungle Action #24 finally being resolved; one downer- I really was not a fan of having T'challa brainwashed by the Dragons and not remembering Monica and Trublood; felt like Ed Hannigan didn't do his homework, but I get it was a way to bring new readers updated, with Monica recounting all of the arc, basically.
If you want to read a mean Panther book, look for Don Mcgregor or Chritopher Priest's work on the character: Kirby is a fun Panther writer, but this is as far as it gets from what I want to see in a comic starring T'challa.
