I was hoping to hear him say something about the characters or stories. Apparently there will be some stuff from the 90s.

Re: DMG Entertainment Founder Dan Mintz on Acquiring Valiant
I don't think I've ever seen someone as full of *SQUEE* as this guy. He's exactly like all of the CEOs that took over gaming publishers in the mid-thousands. Using vague nondescript language to mask the fact that they're completely apathetic to the product they're producing.
"I think storytelling in general, it really transcends any particular medium. And your ability to, you know it's an interesting balance between experience and gaming. And that is something that is very fascinating. The VR world, because now you're actually able to experience something and discover. Which is different than just gaming only. So the combination of the two when you have a very deep story, a very big world, and also the ability to kind of game and challenge yourself. The combination is amazing."
What does this mean? What did he actually say in this paragraph? Everything is so vague that He could literally try to twist it around to sound like he's talking about anything. Experience what? The fifteen minute long VR game DMG has on Steam that's received universally poor reviews. What are we discovering? A dungeon, new enemies, new armor, loot? What kind of games is DMG making? A First Person Shooter, a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, an Action/Adventure game?
Is this guy capable of giving a real description of the products his company produces, or does he exclusively speak in buzzwords? Maybe I should be a venture capitalist. Let's try it.
"I'm working to create a product that really helps millennials millenniate the millennium milennially that gives them a sense of Pride and Accomplishment in an experience you can't get any where else. I really want people to feel immersed in a world that is both completely unique and familiar at the same time. We're really trying raise the bar in terms of innovation, and reinvent some old formulas that have really become stagnant in recent years. It also appeals to the LGBT audience because I want more money, and my marketing department tells me that's the new buzzword. And it's all at the low low price of $9999999.99. Thank you attending my TEDx talk for my Kickstarter to fund my cocaine addiction. Please ignore the dead hookers in the trunk of my car."

I thought it was fine and not unlike other brief interviews that we've seen about the company in the past.

This guy is so clearly a snake. What kind of person "believes" in a product so much that he forces out the people that made it work in the first place?
That said, I don't think the interview showed him in an entirely bad light. I just think he's a business man, first and foremost. Even though he says otherwise, creativity and innovation come second.

I think that he is a fan of Valiant and bought into the company, believing in not only the comics, but the IP.
He and Dinesh had a falling out and Dinesh "left" the company. Mintz subsequently parachuted in his own friend or person recommended to him, Illidge, to champion the company.
Illidge has not had the best run at Valiant, business-wise and abruptly left the company.
Logically, the best thing that they could do was to give the reigns to someone who understands Valiant from the bottom to the top, which they now have in Robert Meyers.

I actually thought it was alright. He seemed nervous, but overall, what he said was fine. I was expecting more corporate shareholder talk.jmatt wrote:I thought it was fine and not unlike other brief interviews that we've seen about the company in the past.

I may be wrong, but I think that Robert Meyer has been with VEI since it started publishing and has worked in most aspects of the company.

Dinesh didnt leave. He was betrayed by the brothers who pooled their shares to over throw dinesh. Just dropping in here to put in a good word for Rob. He has indeed been with VEI for a while. We met him when we were first staring work on the Shadowman album back in 2013. He briefly left to go work for the new comic company that did all those crowdfunded comics in the Night of the Living Dead universe (sorry, I can't remember the name, but I think it was Bill Jemas' company). He returned to Valiant in fairly short order and has worked his way up. I can tell you this about Rob: he is a good guy, a "man of the people" similar to Dinesh in so far as he goes to a lot of conventions and chats up fans, he loves comics and these characters in particular, and he is in this job for the right reasons. He deserves the benefit of the doubt until he has a chance to prove himself.jxm640 wrote:TheFerg714 wrote:Who is this Robert Meyers and why do you think he'll do a better job than Illidge?jxm640 wrote:

Re: DMG Entertainment Founder Dan Mintz on Acquiring Valiant
I waited...and waited to comment here on this subject. I have posted on Facebook already as I feel that's my default area to comment.. I always try to wait a bit more to post here because this is my "home".. you know like you may say things at the bar that you don't at home? Lol. I love you guys so I hope I don't seem to out of line but I feel this needs to be said...
Ok now that that is out of the way...you guys are soo nice. This was the first time I have ever seen or heard Mr. Mintz and truly I would be happy if it is the last. The man is a self described "actor" and that's the best he could do on camera? They weren't asking him anything that should make him nervous. And how about saying how happy he is with the director and actors and how proud he is of the movie? Really?! So proud of something you have no involvement in? And oh yeah the driving force of the movie that you never thank or mention, was the C.E.O. That you removed! I wish I could take credit for things that I had nothing to do with. The leadership he has displayed is poor beyond words, and seeing his interview just reinforced what a fraud he is. So sad to see a company poised to do so much just over a year ago crumbling. I have loved Valiant, and I will always love my favorite characters but this is so sad.

As far as we know, it was not a straight purchase. They came in with multi-million dollar backing a while back and VEI had a certain period of time to return that investment or basically trigger a forfeiture of ownership. They couldn’t put together the money, and DMG became full owners. If you google, I’m sure you can find what the original investment amount was.Aram wrote:I’m so curious.. how much did dmg pay overall for Valiant?

They paid at least $110 million for a minority ownership, which was announced in 2015. The minimum would be over $220 minimum for 100% ownership.

The movies had better be reeeeeal good. Cuz they're not gonna make that back with a readership base hovering around 6500.greg wrote:They paid at least $110 million for a minority ownership, which was announced in 2015. The minimum would be over $220 minimum for 100% ownership.

Absolutely not true. No such clause existed. Valiant changed hands because we were wildly successful and therefore highly desired.BugsySig wrote:VEI had a certain period of time to return that investment or basically trigger a forfeiture of ownership.
