Great start, sir! Thanks.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.
Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
Rai 0 would probably be in the list too.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
So far, nine have been listed. I think all nine probably belong in the top ten.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
That is nine that should make the list. The tenth is more a matter of opinion. My vote would be Archer and Armstrong #0. I believe this is the first comic numbered "zero" which became a trend for "origin issues."

Other options for the ten slot could be ,as you mentioned, Magnus 12 (first Turok) or Magnus 5 (first Rai).

I remember reading in Wizard that they considered the Pink Harbinger #0 issue to be the most important or the comic or the 90's

X-O Manowar #60. First appearance of the X-O bike!

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
I'll second Magnus 5/Rai 1 flipbook - first original Valiant character, and they knocked it out of the park
Magnus 0 - first Valiant comic produced, first 0 issue, sets the tone for the whole universe (pre-Unity at least)
Harbinger 6 - first death of a major character
Unity 0

If you're referring to the a&A arse map in VEI, I think he's talking about VH1.ilzuccone wrote:which book had the first appearance of the *SQUEE* map?
If you're referring to the map Aric uses to escape the spider-alien ship in VH1, I think we saw him get it from Elvis in X-O #0.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
I stand corrected... I was thinking Archer and Armstrong was the first zero book... I suppose Magnus #0 was. Wasn't Valiant the first publisher to do zero issues?Ryan wrote:I'll second Magnus 5/Rai 1 flipbook - first original Valiant character, and they knocked it out of the park

I was also thinking Magnus #1 was the first Valiant comic....but I am not sure now? Which came first? Magnus #1 or #0?

Might consider Death of Torque on that list if it was longer it started to "Where dead is dead" trend

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
Magnus #1 came out first, but the inside cover of #0 says it was the first Valiant universe comic made. It didn't actually come out until you sent in all the coupons from #1-8, I seem to remember a long wait (however time moves slower when you're a kid ) so it's quite possible that Archer and Armstrong #0 was actually out in stores first.Juki wrote:

I think some underground comics might have done a few 0 issues, but Valiant was definitely the first to do it in mainstream superhero comics.

Ten most important VALIANT issues
I think you need to establish most important for VALIANT the company or most important to the VALIANT Universe?
Also surprised no only one person has mentioned Unity #0, the free issue that kicked off the greatest event crossover of all time (sorry Secret Wars and Crisis fans).
I’d also say Harby 1, Harby 0, Magnus 5, Magnus 12, Rai 0, EW 4, XO 1, Solar 10, and my personal favorite Harby 25.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
I think he means the 10 most important comics for the VH1 Universe. If that is the case.....I guess that throws A&A #0 out the window.
I guess Magnus #5 (first Rai) should make the list. What book would Unity 0 bump from the list of importance?

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
Here's my 2 cents. In no particular order. I think we can all agree on the top 6 or 7 at least. The last 3 on every ones list is probably personal preference.
1. Harbinger 1- "The" VALIANT book to have in my opinion
2. Rai 0- iconic cover and story
3. Solar 3- 1st Harada and beautiful cover
4. Solar 10- 1st EW and great story behind black cover
5. Magnus 5- 1st original character
6. Eternal Warrior 4- 1st Bloodshot
7. X-O 1- 1st X-O
8. Unity 0- Kickstart of greatest crossover
9. X-O 4- 1st Shadowman
10. Magnus 1- First comic
A case could be made for a few others (Harby pink, Bloodshot 6, Shadowman 1) but this is a top 10 list so I'm sticking to the rules.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
I love Archer 0, and it's a first appearance, but I wonder if Bloodshot 6 is more important as Ninjak's, which is now one of the top 2 characters at Valiant today. Definitely not as valuable, but it was Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe.

Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
If it was 15 I think there would be closer to consensus. Add Rai 0, Bloodshot 6, Harbinger 0, Magnus 0 and Solar 3 and you pretty much have all the big books. (I think Shadowman 1 is more important than X-O 4)nycjadie wrote:I love Archer 0, and it's a first appearance, but I wonder if Bloodshot 6 is more important as Ninjak's, which is now one of the top 2 characters at Valiant today. Re: Ten most important VALIANT issues
This is a good discussion, so I'll just throw in a different perspective.
If a book from the original Valiant run is worth owning, it is probably worth "slabbing".
The Valiant books that have been CGC slabbed most often are:
Rai 0 (11/92,Valiant)
Harbinger 1 (1/92,Valiant)
Eternal Warrior 4 (11/92,Valiant)
X-O Manowar 1 (2/92,Valiant)
Solar, Man of the Atom 10 (6/92,Valiant)
Magnus Robot Fighter 1 (5/91,Valiant)
Harbinger 0 Pink Variant (1992,Valiant)
Shadowman 1 (5/92,Valiant)
Solar, Man of the Atom 1 (9/91,Valiant)
Bloodshot 6 (7/93,Valiant)
Rai 1 (3/92,Valiant)
Bloodshot 1 (2/93,Valiant)
Solar, Man of the Atom 3 (11/91,Valiant)
Magnus Robot Fighter 12 (5/92,Valiant)
Magnus Robot Fighter 5 (10/91,Valiant)
Archer & Armstrong 0 (7/92,Valiant)
X-O Manowar 0 (8/93,Valiant)
Rai 3 (5/92,Valiant)
Rai 4 (6/92,Valiant)
Shadowman 8 (12/92,Valiant)
X-O Manowar 4 (5/92,Valiant)
Harbinger 2 (2/92,Valiant)
Turok, Dinosaur Hunter 1 (7/93,Valiant)
Magnus Robot Fighter 0 Mail-order Edition (1992,Valiant)
Magnus Robot Fighter 0 (1992,Valiant)
Unity 0 Red Logo Variant (8/92,Valiant)
Unity 1 Gold Edition (10/92,Valiant)
Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Edition (8/92,Valiant)
Eternal Warrior 1 (8/92,Valiant)
Deathmate Black nn (9/93,Image-Valiant Comics)
Archer & Armstrong 8 (3/93,Valiant)
It seems to me that the Valiant books slabbed most often are a combination of "most important" and "most available". If we throw out books that haven't even been mentioned as most important which are definitely most available (Turok #1, X-O #0), and then move some books up the list which are definitely most important but very low print (because a bunch can't slabbed if only a few were printed), then we would have a pretty good list in a pretty good order.
