Poll - Matt Kindt’s best work for Valiant?
Ok, so many people (me included) have been disappointed with Harby Wars 2, BUT, after a re-read of 4001ad it reminded me that actually Kindt has had a huge impact on the Valiant U and created many, many new characters which others writers can utilise for years to come.
He may not stick the landing every time, but Kindt’s weird and wonderful imagination has probably been the single biggest influence since the 2012 relaunch.
My favourite runs of his are 4001ad and Rai, but what are others people’s favourites and why? What new characters created by Kindt do we think will have the biggest impact in the long run?

Re: Poll - Matt Kindt’s best work for Valiant?
very tough choices,
Far and away, his best writing for Valiant has to be Divinity, it's crazy good! I had a tough time choosing between Rai and The Valiant. In the end, had to go with The Valiant, as it brought me into Valiant fandom. Rai was a little tougher pill to swallow, had to know a little more about Valiant before I could understand it.

I agree with Moose. Divinity was great especially the first 4 issues. Loved The Valiant. I think Rai and Ninjak were good too.

Rai and Divinity, of freaking course. A close 3rd would be The Valiant, since it is one of my favourite minis from VEI, but since its not a Kindt-solo...

Surprised X-O and Ninjak aren’t higher. They were the highest sellers, and Ninjak is an amazing story.

+1. Close call between Divinity and 4001 for me, though. That series aged well, because it seems more substantial now than it did when it came out.Summydad1 wrote:Rai and Divinity all the way!

Re: Poll - Matt Kindt’s best work for Valiant?
Sometimes I forget how much I like Kindt. Sometimes I get wrapped up in complaining about his poorer work, but then after rereading stuff, I've grown to really respect the guy's work and I'm so glad he worked for Valiant for so long.
The Valiant- I miss when Kindt tried to do more "basic" superhero storytelling. This story is a modern classic.
Divinity- Probably technically the best work he's done at Valiant. It's beautiful and so smart and just gets better and better.
Ninjak- I was actually kind of so-so on this, and while Fist & Steel isn't great, this rest of the series is really solid, with some incredible action and character building. Plus: Roku.
Rai- Amazing. I'm the middle of a reread right now (beginning with Vol. 4 this time) and loving it!
Unity- The first arc is transcendent to me. I don't think anyone could have written a better story. The next four arcs range from okay to really fun, and Warmonger is... well let's just leave it at that, seeing as we're talking about the GOOD things Kindt has done.
X-O Manowar- Has some rough moments, but is really bombastic and epic. I'd love to see Aric doing things on Earth, but mostly I just want to see what Kindt does with the series. I'm crossing my fingers for at least 25 issues.
4001 A.D.- It's good, not great. The Rai back-ups are excellent.
Eternity- Not as good as Divinity, but still solid. And very weird.
Rapture- I don't love this one, but it's fun. The Geomancer and her pet thing (that he killed in HW2!!) are adorable and it was nice to see Shadowman doing something proactive for once.
Harbinger Wars II- Not good.
Other- Bloodshot #0 is fantastic.
His short in Unity #25 is the only good thing in that issue.
Book of Death: Fall of Ninjak was great.
Harbinger Wars II #0 was the (second) best issue of the event.

Re: Poll - Matt Kindt’s best work for Valiant?
This is pretty much where I’m at too. Even with the lesser work he’s still given us/Valiant a plethora of new characters which can be fleshed out and used for years to come, Shadow 7, all of Divinity/Eternity, all of the Gorin characters from the current XO run etcTheFerg714 wrote:Sometimes I forget how much I like Kindt. Maybe at times Valiant have over used him (as he writes lots of other stuff too) and perhaps sometimes his risks don’t pay off, but re-reading 4001ad has been great and I’ll be re-reading all of Divinity next. Hope he isn’t leaving Valiant but would be happy to give other writers an opportunity if he just does one book and occasional mini.

Re: Poll - Matt Kindt’s best work for Valiant?
I went with DIVINITY and NINJAK.
Divinity is just amazing through and through.
I didn't think I'd like ETERNITY, I'm a little burnt out on Kirby pastiche, but once I read it I wanted more!
It was tough. I started reading VEI with THE VALIANT so it holds a special place for me but it is a collaboration piece so I went with NINJAK. NINJAK sometimes frustrated me with it's direction but in the end I felt like it all did tie together. And I thought RAPTURE was a fantastic follow up!
I really love UNITY, all of it save for War Monger. Great art on the flashback sequences though. UNITY makes a great sister series with NINJAK.

My favorite Kindt work is Bloodshot #0. I wouldn't have minded him having a run on Bloodshot.
