Re: What's the best comic investment you've ever made?
I bought the CGC 10 Rai #0 for about $225 more than a dozen years ago. I have been offered $10,000 and declined. I've had $10,000 before and I'll have it again, but I wouldn't ever get the book back if I sold it.

Re: What's the best comic investment you've ever made?
I own a property management company and during the housing downturn a few years back used to get a lot of work cleaning out bank repos. I put a bid in on a nice house out in the country that involved the use of heavy equipment to clean out fence rows. The company that I used to compete against would usually beat me on cheap labor but I would beat them on skilled labor. I knew they didn't have the equipment for this particular job so I didn't have to sharpen my pencil as much as usual. I got the bid and ended up with the job, a good profit, and a long box of comics from the basement that included a first print Walking Dead #1. This was well before the t.v. show jumped the value up. So I'd consider my best investment to be the one where I got paid to haul out a bunch of comics.

I bought a NM Batman Adventures 12 for $40 from My Comic Shop several years ago. I wasn't expecting anything extravagant, just a solid NM copy. I got it and it looked absolutely flawless. I submitted to CGC about a year or so later and it came back at 9.8. It has blown up ever since.
I also bought a Harley Quinn 1 CGC 9.9 for $99 on eBay several years ago.

How much is that Batman Adventures 12 worth now in CGC 9.8?

I'd have to go with my recent pick-up of Amazing Spidey #238 (first Hobgoblin), complete with tattoo insert... estimated at 9.2~9.4 grade. I traded in my Saga comics for some store credit & ended up getting this issue for $15!

I've got a few stories, but the best was $150 for 23+ long boxes, sight unseen, all unbagged. Some highlights from that collection :
Avengers 1
Hulk 181 7.5
Iron Man 55
Invincible 1 9.8
ASM 129 7.5
Strange Tales 135
And so many more.

Re: What's the best comic investment you've ever made?
Maybe 2 cents. It was really the collection of a lifetime. Single owner. Avengers 1 to recent books. Apparently, his daughter had already taken what she wanted, and was a collector too. I don't know. I think he was a bit mad. Flash 123, Giant Size X-Men 1, etc. A but Bananas. I would wait a week before going through another long box because I never knew what I was going to pull out of it, and I knew I'd never have another collection like this again.StarBrand wrote:What did that come out to, several cents per book?nycjadie wrote:I've got a few stories, but the best was $150 for 23+ long boxes, sight unseen, all unbagged. I think about ten years ago I snipped a number three Maxx Black on eBay for under $150 USD - my bid was for $500. I sold it for around 2k a few years back...
