So Today has been a day, a hell of a day. So I'm gonna give one of these away.
Image

There are only 10 of these in existence and this will be for #4

Very Simple. Tell me of a time that Valiant comics made you happy. Could be announcement based, story based, interaction based, anything. I will pick a random entry Sunday (8/13) and they will win this.

Thank you, I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say

My best Valiant moment was dinner with Dino, Warren, Robert Venditti and Dino's wife. Great time. Super fun.

True Story, and funny/awkward makes me happy:

ECCC 2016, head in and take a leak. The day was winding down, and as I was finding a stall, the person that walked in right behind me was Robert Venditti. He posts up two stalls away, per any man rule, but then begins asking me about my con. Now, I had met him earlier in the week, but he for certain remembered me. So I tell him just about everything non-Valiant related that was awesome, then finished up with the Valiant stuff. Earlier, I had told him a story about a guy I put through Air Force Basic Training and how he got me into Valiant, and XO Manowar. I also told him that I was sending him some stuff. Well, he remembered that entire conversation we had earlier in the week, and told me (as we were washing our hands), to swing by the Valiant booth, and he would personalize something for my friend.

Now that's pretty awesome, but when I relayed the story to my friend, he about lost his mind!

My friend was hooked up, and I've got a story for life!

At one of the early Valiant booths at NYC Comic Con, I'm hanging in the booth watching Dino as he chats with somebody else. He sees me hovering and calls me over. Turns out the other guy is a rep from a toy manufacturing company, Dino tells me to offer my opinions, as a fan, of what kind of figures I'd like to see. I am delighted.

Later, he pulls me over and says "Hey, do you have one of these?" He reaches under a table and pulls out a Shadowman #nn (black, with sleeve). I have him sign it on the spot.

Love these guys!

Valiant makes me happy every time I finish one of their books, their consistency makes me happy. Each time they announce a new story arc or creative team it makes me happy.

I saw Valiant attend ECCC in 2012 with a tiny, tiny booth. This year, I saw a massive booth with talent and books and signings, a staff, etc. That made me happy.

My friends and I attended NC Comicon a couple years ago and spoke with Dinesh for a while. This is always exciting, but this time you could tell he was super stoked about something, so we finally convinced him to give in and tell us. He then went on to talk about anything and everything he was excited for, including the Russo brother's involvement in a Q&W show as well as their direction on an XO film. This stuff has all been leaked now, but it was a very long time for us to share these secrets (especially considering it love for Valiant and respect for the Russos). It's always fun to get a sneak peek and feel special, haha.

I went to HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC in June 2012... Harbinger #1 was just released and the 2nd print of X-O #1 was supposed to be out, but I had trouble finding one. On the last day of the con, I found a dealer with one copy of X-O #1 2nd print so I bought it and took it to the Valiant tables. Robert Venditti and Cary Nord were signing and they both looked at it saying... "I haven't seen this before!". So I asked them to put "first signed copy" on the book, based on what they said.

That seems to have been the start of some kind of Valiant fan tradition. ;)

One of my favorite memories is when Valiant asked for Volunteers at the Amazing Las Vegas Con, so I drove out both days to help out at the booth with everyone. On Sunday I stayed behind and helped Atom! pack up the booth, when we shrink wrapped the pallet I threw a bunch of the con previews between the layers of shrink wrap. Then we went and had some beers and talked about everything from Valiant to whiskey and rugby. Truly a awesome weekend.

A close second is when Dinesh came to Comikazee to work at Elveens booth. Dinesh helped me buy a Giant Size X-Men #1. That was a cool experience, it's a cool book but shopping for comics with Dinesh is a super cool experience.

I want to preface my answer in that I am still a very happy fan.

I think before the Sony leaks was what made me happiest. It wasn't about hording books or making sure you got more of a variant than the next guy. I had fun trying to get variants and picking up the old 90s golds that I didn't have. I think, for the worst, the movie stuff has changed a lot on the landscape for fans. I remember buying a lot of stuff on here and then the movie news hit and people literally backed-out of deals on books that we agreed on. Back then, you could still get the hard-to-find stuff and there was a lot of excitement for the hunt.

There are way too many times Valiant has made me happy to pick my favorite one. Most of them don't involve the comics directly, but the friends I've made because of them. That said, it's hard not to be happy when you get to take a picture with XO Manowar. I've posted this picture before, but that's yours truly front and center. This was at SDCC around 1995 or so.

I do remember an XO walking around in '95.

That con was definately one of my many happy Valiant moments. Most such moments involve interacting with other fans. Also been very happy that my kids have been able to interact with Valiant.

Right now I pick reading this thread as the happy moment to share :)

The one time I got to go to a Valiant Fans SDCC Poker Night, in 2010. I went into the evening very skeptical of VEI and even critical and by the end of the evening I was converted to a true believer and have been ever since. We got to talk to Dino, who up until that point for better or worse had been very tight-lipped about what Valiant was up to and could not say much. Two short years later, we had stories on the shelf, four monthly titles and excellent stories (with a handful of misfires) ever since, not shipping a single issue late.

And I won Valiant Jeopardy that year. That was most unexpected. I was just hoping to avoid humiliating myself.

I have two moments that stand out. The first was late 2011 when I found out Valiant was resurrected. Ever since then I've had Valiant on the brain!

The second was December 13, 2013 approximately 5:30 EDT. Someone (who shall remain nameless) at Valiant innocently tweeted a photo of the Unity #1 Clayton Crain #UNITYGOLDENTICKET. The tweet must've been up for at least 15 minutes by the time I saw it at 5:30 but taken down soon after. Recognizing the shelves and placards, I took the opportunity to hightail it to Forbidden Planet to claim my prize!!!

These are great stories   . I have so many fond memories that I could probably right a short novel on them. Should I say top ten moments? Lol. I have been lucky enough to be at several Valiant poker games, helping out at conventions all around Southern California, going to Vegas (just for Valiant) and even traveling to NYCC. But my favorite might have to be because of a retailer whom many on the boards are familiar with, Collectors Paradise. Like I said I have been to many conventions both by myself and with my children but they be hard pressed to compete with the Quantum and Woody signing/ launch party! I have lived all over the country and I have lived on farms before. I was excited to speak with Dinesh (as always!) and was looking forward to seeing James again and talk about the book. The star of the day however was hands down Mona. Mona the goat who at the time was pregnant with two kids! My children lost their minds! I didn't really expect that level of excitement and joy but since that day the goat has been their favorite character. What could have been a commercial for Hal Worthington and his dog spot was one of the funniest and goofiest memories.

Also a special shout out to so many friends made on this board who I have met through Valiant. :high-five: one day I am going to post a thread just to say thanks because these people are greatly responsible for so many many more great memories!
