No one should be too jealous... there are 74 signature series 9.9s on the CGC census... and 5 CGC 10s. :D

Stainless steel... it's a Delorean. :D

I'm thinking that the whole print run of 2,000 copies (I think) was probably inspected for the best 100. So, even though there are 79 CGC 9.9+ copies, that's still only 1-in-25 directly from the printer.

I'm not a fan of Stan's sig and ya it's got a crack and has resto, but I paid 1k Canadian for this book and I never thought I'd be able to get one for that price.

One thing that is very cool about owning key issues is that you can honestly say that you own one. Condition is only a factor later. All those thousands (or millions) of X-Men collections without an X-Men #1 are automatically not as cool as collections with an X-Men #1. It's an automatic leap to the top level of the collector world to own THE key for comics that are household names.
Sure, within that top level, it gets crazy on prices... but everyone in the club is IN the club.

Agree with Greg. Having one is fantastic. My grail is AF15. I can own a lot of different books, and I'm not sure I will ever own one, but I certainly want one!

Thanks, and although I never say comics should be considered an investment this might be one of those exceptions...
The seller was asking $800 CAD when I saw the ad,which is less than $600 USD...my wanting to lose this I increased my price above his ask, and was genuine with him. These were a gift from his dad who passed away 18 years ago....

Hey man, an X-men #1 is a #1 regardless of condition. It looks like we both got our grail around the same

I can't believe you got it for this price. I'm looking at eBay and this is probably a $2K book.

The inadequacy I felt for my collection when I saw this comic must be what it would feel like if I started dating a pornstar

CGC incompetence. It happens with nearly every order I have with them. Seriously. I just sent 4 slabs back to them yesterday for correction, but since this one is fine (although not what I asked for), I'm going to hold it back.
