Great post Hulkman181. I agree with what you say about silver and bronze age books. Outside of Valiant, I also collect silver and bronze age key books. I can only speak for myself here but I only collect comics of characters I like or covers that remind me of my youth. I never buy a comic for possible financial gain and sale in the future. It is completely a hobby for me and if all my valuable books become worthless over night then at least I enjoyed it while it lasted. This may sound crazy to a lot of people but I enjoy just being involved.

That's true. I really wanted a CGC 9.8 Ultimate Spider-Man #1 White Variant... and sure enough, the priced dropped 17 years later and I got one. :D

...oh, and getting back on topic, I also got one of these recently:

Hahaha. 17 years. I have kicked around the idea of getting that Spider-Man. To get back to my original post, my X-O #1 brushed metal showed up and I couldn't be happier. What a beauty. I'm now gonna try and track down some rare modern Bloodshot variants. The reborn #1 gold and #1 ribic variant are hot.

Those are good. Bloodshot #3 1:25 variant with the dripping gold nanites is a favorite of mine.

I didn't wait 17 years on that one. :)

That Bloodshot 3 is also my favorite, and it was one of the hardest for me to find.

Sammy ...

The XO Manowar Metal cover is awesome !!!

However, the story of the book so far has been amazing and the inner artwork is just plain incredible ...

A good starting point if you are/were a fan of the early V1 series.

Time to get re-hooked !!!

Well the variant madness has struck me. Up till 2 weeks ago I was a strict v1 collector only. After I saw how beautiful the metal cover is, I picked up a Bloodshot 1 ribic variant and Bloodshot reborn 1 gold variant. Both cgc 9.6. Also just snagged a xo1 jones variant. Cgc 9.8. I think up next are Bloodshot #3 1:25 and Rai 1 gold. I can see this quickly getting out of hand.

I have to wonder, as an "investment" per se, is it better to own two 9.6 books at half the price of a single 9.8?

Assuming that movies someday arrive and the resale value of Valiant slabs go up significantly, would the ROI on the former be better than the latter?

Of course, everyone wants the 9.8... but at some point there may be many more buyers than at present who just want the best one they can afford. As the 9.8s go into a price range few can afford, and people are willing to settle for a 9.6 or lower, might the ROI on multiple 9.6s exceed that of a single 9.8?

Perhaps some of our slab sellers and collectors can chime in on this.

Personally, any 9.8 unless it is a great price isn't worth it to me. Most of the time a 9.8 is well over twice the price of a 9.6. I never buy a comic for resale so buying two 9.6's instead of one 9.8 gets me what I want, more great looking books to add to my collection. Right now I'm trying to build.

9.6s are a great value if you want a high grade book for value. The difference between a 9.8 and a 9.6 is often very slight, if any difference at all. However, I can nearly always tell the difference between a 9.6 and a 9.4.

For VEI issues, the cover stock is so sensitive that a 9.6 is in itself very difficult.

You want some good 9.6s, I have several in my eBay store. Great value.

I agree completely. Eye appeal is a huge selling point. I'm not skilled enough to tell the difference between 9.8 and 9.6. Even some 9.4's to me look amazing. Case in point, my solar #10 is a 9.4 and looks great and cost me around $75. I will check out your store. Always looking.

Thanks for the input. While I'm not really in the market at the moment, I was just thinking about the ROI on 9.6s when a title gets "hot". I'll take a look at your store and see if anything inspires me. :thumb:

Greg seems to do a lot of number crunching on this stuff, I wonder what his thoughts are.
