Most Expensive ($1K+) VEI Sales to Date?
I was wondering what the most expensive VEI sale to date might be. Yesterday, I sold an X-O 15 1:50 Kotaki error book in 9.4 for $1K buy it now. I then remembered the metal cover, which sold for $1437, and another at a best offer accepted (not sure price). It then made me think that a better way of analyzing the high sales are by the types of covers, as it seems that collectors much prefer getting the prestige covers in 9.8 (at least, from my experience - as I think folks want to try to get a whole set, which for the regular covers is near impossible).
Metal Covers:
X-O 1 9.8 - $1437 (April 2017)
X-O 1 9.8 - $1250 (April 2017)
Prestige Covers:
Regular Covers:
Unity 1 Foreman Golden Ticket 9.6 - $2140 (February 2016)
Bloodshot 1 DMG 9.8 - $1100
Harbinger 1 DMG 9.8 - $1100
X-O 15 1:50 Kotaki Error 9.4 - $1K (May 2017)

Of course! We should plug those in. Was there a link with sales of those?

Thanks, all. I put a threshold of $1K and made edits above, including adding dates.

Didn't the first CGC 9.8 X-O Manowar #1 (Metal 1:500) sell for $1510

Re: Most Expensive ($1K+) VEI Sales to Date?
Serious question from neophyte. Is that a good investment? $1,000 on a comic book? I'm assuming it is sure to appreciate in value? Otherwise I don't get it. That's a lot of cabbage.

Re: Most Expensive ($1K+) VEI Sales to Date?
I wouldn't say it's a good investment, but if you're a huge Valiant fan and have the money to spare then why not?
If you want an "investment" book, I'd suggest there are much better options to drop 1K on.

From all these +1k books the Kotaki Error seems to be the (most) overvalued one.

Really? Why do you think that? It's the rarest on the list, outside of the one-off Golden Ticket books.Sunlight on Snow wrote:From all these +1k books the Kotaki Error seems to be the (most) overvalued one.

Re: Most Expensive ($1K+) VEI Sales to Date?
X-O Manowar #15 (Kotakai Error) AND X-O Manowar #15 (Kotakai 1:50) BOTH are incredibly difficult to find; not to mention there is zero promise of high grade condition.
With X-O Manowar essentially being the flag-ship IP for the Valiant Universe, and a movie in the works; PLUS Quantum & Woody having similar projects that have been announced in recent weeks, it is highly likely that X-O Manowar #15 (Kotakai Error) has been (and will continue to be) a dominant grail for fans, collectors, and speculators.
This issue has many things going for it.
1. It is HTF.
2. It has a visually appealing cover.
3. It features X-O (Russo Brothers media project in the works).
4. It contains Q&W (Russo Brothers media project in the works).
5. It is condition sensitive.
6. It has a market demand.
7. It is actually attainable (more so than a Golden Ticket).
8. It is an "Error" that is CLEARLY an "Error" and is clearly identifiable as such.
9. It can be part of a CGC/CBCS X-O collection and/or registry set.
10. It can be part of a CGC/CBCS Q&W collection and/or registry set.

You missed a BIG one. It is the first appearance of Col. Jamie Capshaw.DirtbagSailor wrote:X-O Manowar #15 (Kotakai Error) AND X-O Manowar #15 (Kotakai 1:50) BOTH are incredibly difficult to find; not to mention there is zero promise of high grade condition.

Harbinger #3 1:20, Shadowman #5 1:50, Shadowman #13 1:50, and X-O Manowar #15 1:50 are major first appearances for new (or drastically changed) characters in VEI.

I don't know that I would consider Capshaw a Major 1st appearance. I personally would consider it a minor one. Very hard to get, but a minor character.

Re: Most Expensive ($1K+) VEI Sales to Date?
I get what you guys are saying, however, if I really wanted to get any of these I would definitely take the other rare ones before the Kotaki Error because it is "just" a book with the wrong cover or pages and that seems to be less special than a truly unique Golden Ticket or a rare book that was given away to a handful people in the China (although we don't actually know how many).
