Do 500 store exclusives cost the same as ordering 500 regular comics? How does the whole process work particularly in this case? Did you (or another shop) contact Valiant or did Valiant approach the shops with a list of potential variant cover designs ready for everyone to pick from - first come first serve?paradise wrote:You are not correct about this. All these companies that make a variant covers WON'T be getting their own 1:500 variant cover in their image, that's not how it works. Those are produced on the side, and have nothing to do with covers A and B.
On a side note, there are 20 different variants, and that does seem like a great deal of variants. Rest assured, it has nothing to do with the 1:500, nor do the purchases by those companies of those variants qualify them to get a 1:500
1. store orders 500 or more copies of Covers A/B
2. Store gets an exclusive variant
Why do you think there are so many of these exclusives? And that's the reason I am getting 3 copies of the 1:500, 1 for each of my two stores ordering 500, and a third for our exclusive.

No problem. We wouldn't really know stores could get an additional copy of the 1:500 variant by ordering 500 store exclusives if it wasn't for you saying so.... and that's made me curious.paradise wrote:To be honest there is some stuff that is between stores and publishers that I won't discuss here.Sunlight on Snow wrote:Do 500 store exclusives cost the same as ordering 500 regular comics? Yeah, true, but that was public information, not a secret I revealed. There are things that you are meant to know, and other things, like pricing on special deals, or processes between retailers and publishers/distributors, that some of the people involved in the process may not want to be public knowledge, OR they are different from one party to another. The relationship I have with VEI may not be the same as one a different store has.Sunlight on Snow wrote: No problem. Re: X-O 1 1:500 Print Run Speculation
My shop got the book and we are haggling a bit. But thanks for the info, Ed. Could he have been talking about the pre-order books? When do those become available?
I will most likely purchase the metal cover. If I get it at a certain price point, I may keep it (which seems unlikely atm). Beyond that, I am making it available to board members.
PM me if anyone is interested, right now it looks like I may be able to make it available for $600. It all depends on tomorrow's negotiations, so there's no guarantee of anything. If Ebay listings go lower, that number may come down a bit.

Seems like the price is dropping fast on these.
$999.99 down to $599.99 just like that.

A thousand bucks is the pre-order feeling out stage. Tomorrow, we will see where the rubber hits the road.

Yeah, be curious where these end up. If $600 on eBay, means you could probably get one direct for $550.
Re: X-O 1 1:500 Print Run Speculation
Looks like a decent amount of copies
For sale by non exclusive cover shops
Maybe 20+ from shops doing exclusives
Guess maybe 20+ stores either buying
500 copies to make $$$ off it or collectors
Close to shops.
Maybe 10? Copies to collectors close to shops
For their personal collection.
Just a guess maybe 50+

Re: X-O 1 1:500 Print Run Speculation
There are currently 19 copies on Ebay. This book is not going to be as rare as some thought. The lowest price is $600 BIN. It will be interesting to see where the price ends up on these after the initial Ebay flood.

I am not ashamed to admit: I prepaid for $850 through my LCS. Why no regrets? Because I got 500 copies at wholesale cost out to a waiting fan base, who can now pay a discounted price of just $2 to see what's really going on at Valiant. I also like my LCS, who already stocks an entire rack with Valiant new and back issues. With an overstock of XO 1, they're sure to increase visibility as each sale is a clear profit. I think that offers of $425 will soon be an option for some of these brushed metal variants on EBay, and that's good for you guys too. We all win, really.

Well said. Even If it dips down to $300, many will have an opportunity to get one who wouldn't have. It's sure to go back up. Once availability dries up. Now is the time to buy one. It will likely not get cheaper so long as there are X-O fans. The question we all have is where is the bottom?

I'm thinking $400, then it will bounce back up to around $550ish. I could be off, but I am watching...nycjadie wrote:Well said. Re: X-O 1 1:500 Print Run Speculation
What you have to understand about what is happening on Ebay, is the stupid seller mentality. They all search listed items (not sold items, which is the smart thing to do) and see what others list for, then they undercut. This continues to happen, even though there IS NOT enough supply to justify this cutting. I know approximate numbers, trust me, there is not enough supply for it to be lowered and lowered. It's the idiots who think they need to list lower than the next guy above them that is creating lower prices in the VERY SHORT TERM. this can not last, as supplies will die off rather fast. This round, make deals, because in 2 weeks, there won't be any on ebay.nycjadie wrote:Well said. Even If it dips down to $300, many will have an opportunity to get one who wouldn't have. Let them do them, it'll allow those little fishies to be drawn in so us bigger fishies can snag 'em! It'll go back up, we all know this.

Agree completely. Very short window for low prices. The bottom is now, or this weekend, or early next week.paradise wrote:What you have to understand about what is happening on Ebay, is the stupid seller mentality.
