Are there any thoughts or estimates on the print runs on the Broadway preview issues?

the parenthesis hid it from me. I guess the indica doesn't say Miracle on Broadway. Out of curiosity, anyone know how much a copy would roughly cost?

I have an unworn Pristine Mint Fatale jacket, both newsletters (one folded #1 and one unfolded plus an additional copy of #2 still in sealed envelope), 2 1/2 inch Broadway Comics button, Knights On Broadway NM undisplayed poster, all of the B & W Preview issues in NM/M unread condition along with the original Gary Guzzo retailer cover letter and cardboard backer, and Fatale: Inherit The Earth TPB in unread NM/M condition that I'm considering selling off as a bundle to help fund my self published The Human Gargoyles comic book project. If interested, PM me and I'll let you know when and where they are available.

Best,
George E Warner

Wow. I've never seen some of that stuff. Someone should snap it up. I can't wait to see your Human Gargoyles comic in print, btw.

Knightt wrote:Broadway Comics was started by Jim Shooter in 1995, right after his former company, Defiant, had folded. It was the fourth and up till now last attempt on a comic book universe. The company was a division of Broadway Video Entertainment with Jim Shooter as co-owner of the characters.

In 1996 Broadway Video Entertainment was sold to Golden Books, which then promptly went bankrupt. Broadway Comic didn't have the infrastructure or the means to continue. The year 1996 being one of the worst years for the comic book industry, the company was closed before it had a chance to start, just like a number of other new comic book companies.

Broadway Comics started up with three series: "Powers that Be" which turned into "Star Seed", "Fatale", and "Shadow State". Later several other series was planned to follow, but only "Knights on Broadway" was launched before Broadway Comics was discontinued. The closing of the company was very abrupt leaving unfinished storyarcs in all series but "Fatale".
Not familiar with Defiant or Broadway, but Shooter was really unlucky in the 90's. I would like someone to give these characters a go again and start fresh, like the new VALIANT.
The Broadway continuity was, like Shooter's two previous attempts, taking place in real time and the characters were most likely not to wear a super-hero uniform. The short time continuity existed left no real time for building a continuity. One of the interesting things Shooter did at Broadway Comics was the comic-within-comic having a comic called "Blood S.C.R.E.A.M." as a part of the story in "Shadow State". Blood S.C.R.E.A.M. was a way making fun of Rob Liefeld at Image from the names to the art and down to the first storyarc called "Image isn't everything".

I would like that as well buuuuut... would like someone other than Jim to handle them. I have to admit that his luck is just "bad" and his style doesn't suit me any longer. Not that I don't appreciate the man as I think his Dark Horse relaunch could have been something but again, it wasn't.

I just picked up an unsigned Fatale Inherit the Earth hardcover. It has some ink rub/dirt on the cover and a slightly dinged corner. I am happy with it. :D

Now I just need to track down Miracle of Broadway.

I got a message from the seller regarding the unsigned Fatale HC . . . it was a copy given to his wife from the late Dave Cockrum. Cool piece of history.

I found that the little alcohol swabs help in removing dirt stains on the hardcover. My Fatale arrived with this mildew looking spatter on the back and a square alcohol swap removed it easy. Even made the white areas of the hardcover and spine look whiter. Pro tip my comic shop gave me that worked. I was 80 percent relieved the stains were gone afterwards.

Jim Shooter wrote:In terms of unit cost, this must be one of the most expensive comic books ever printed.

Broadway Comics was funded by Broadway Video Entertainment, which was a division (or subsidiary, I forget) of parent Broadway Video. Broadway Video is the co-producer of Saturday Night Live and also a world-class video production house. Each year they give a snazzy holiday gift to their most important video-editing clients. In 1995, BV management asked us at Broadway Comics to create a special, collector’s item comic book as part of a holiday gift package.

They had a number of requirements—a holiday theme, of course, some activity pages for the kiddies…. They insisted that we use all of our characters, even those that were still in the development stage and hadn’t yet seen the light of day.

And of course, they came to us at the last minute, so it was a dead sprint all the way to get the book done. A few things suffered, mostly the coloring.

The print run was 1,100.

The art, editorial, art production and printing costs totaled a little over $30,000. Each book, therefore, cost nearly $30 to produce.

Miracle on Broadway was printed digitally on heavy, bright white stock with a card stock cover.

Copies were packed in a gift box along with a box of crayons, I believe, and some other gift items provided by BV. We comics people packed the gift boxes. It takes a while to carefully pack up almost 1,100 gifts.

BV permitted us to have a very small number of copies, so that each of the principal creators could have one. Being the Big Cheese, I got several.

I gave one to my mother for Christmas.
