My Valiant Story
Hey all! My name is Ethan, and I'm a huge Valiant fan! I'm glad to see that I'm in good company.
I never really grew up reading comics (unfortunately). I've always been into superheroes, however. Comics just weren't a huge part of my life. In college, I started reading some comics, but I was never satisfied with the stories being told. I loved talking comics with friends, and I loved the cinematic universes for large-scale action/adventure, but when I read comics, I wanted something more... I wasn't satisfied with good art & fun action... I wanted a good, meaningful story that I could relate to and talk about. I wanted to read comics that told a story and gave me a glimpse into the human experience.
In early 2015, at a Comic Convention, my friend took me to the large Valiant booth. I was hesitant. At the time, I only read Marvel/DC, and I was very selective. VERY selective. Like I said, I wanted to read stories that spoke to me. He insisted that I buy a few trades and give them a shot. So I bought Archer & Armstrong Vol. 1, X-O Manowar Vol. 1, Harbinger Vol. 1, and Ninjak #6. I think I may have bought Divinity 1 as well.
The first trade I read was Archer & Armstrong, and I read it in one sitting. I was amazed. What I read was different from everything else i'd read in the world of comics. I didn't just love the artwork and the action (and humor), but the characters spoke to me. I really connected, on a deep level, to both Archer & Armstrong. I was engaged with their journey, and it was a joy to read. Perhaps you can relate. From that moment on, I was hooked. Something was different about Valiant. It wasn't just superheroes on a journey... I felt like I was on the journey too.
After reading A&A, I dived deep. And I mean deep. At the time, I was fortunate enough to be working two jobs, so I had enough money to invest in collections. I searched ebay like crazy and started collecting full runs, both new and old Valiant. I don't have any crazy collectibles, besides a signed copy of Turok #1, but in a matter of months I had collected almost every issue that Valiant has put out since 2012, as well as a bunch of old Valiant content (HARD Corps, Secret Weapons, Bloodshot, XO, etc.).
My friends now call me the Valiant superfan. Now that I've found this site to share my excitement, I'm realizing I've barely scratched the surface. But still, to go from having a few trades to almost every issue they had put out since 2012, in a matter of months, at least earns me some sort of fan status.
I started looking for a forum to share my excitement because, even at my local comic shop, Valiant fans are limited. I'm hoping to change that, but for now, I don't have a community to share my love of Valiant with. Hopefully being in this community will change that! Thanks for having me!

Very cool, not enough West Coast people on this forum. I'm from Washington State, and there aren't nearly enough PNW'ers here.
Just choose a topic and read. Have something to say, just say it. We are all pretty welcoming here

Re: My Valiant Story
Welcome aboard, man! Don't worry about the size of the forum - just hop in and comment on whatever threads people are most currently talking about! From there you'll get more comfortable & you can dig deeper in if you find threads of interest to you. That's how I started off, I didn't worry about trying to read absolutely everything.Valiant_Shortbox wrote:West coast! United States! How can I get involved? You're in the right place for people who've caught Valiant Fever & are not looking for a cure
