Did Faith 1 get a gold because it's not a mini?
Someone at SCCC pointed out that minis so far haven't gotten a gold...

Seems like a four issue mini to me. It gets my hopes up for a Divinity II gold. So you're saying there's a chance?

I'm saying there's more chance that faith is ongoing. At least that seemed to be the hint being dropped at the con.

Faith 1 did get a Gold. I got a copy at C2E2 after going to a panel.

I've only read the first two so far, but it's just such a generic cookie cutter comic book that I was looking forward to something else replacing it on the monthly publishing list.

It's a new series, though. The gold is for the mini series.

That was me that mentioned that it shouldn't have got a Gold, because it's a mini. Well, now we know what's up, honestly, the mini still shouldn't have got a Gold, that should have been reserved for the new #1 in July. I feel like Valiant owes us a Divinity #1 Gold, or a Divinity II #1 Gold... I doubt it, but I believe Divinity will get an ongoing eventually, and thus, a Gold #1

Too bad they're not just continuing in July with a #5 instead!

I was hoping it would have just been a #5 in May, granted, this gives the artist a little breathing room, but also, enough lapse in time that they feel a new #1 is needed.Phoenix8008 wrote:Too bad they're not just continuing in July with a #5 instead!

So, we should have 3 volumes of Rai #1-4 so far since it started under VEI since the artist needed a long break to get ahead again?agent_graves wrote:I was hoping it would have just been a #5 in May, granted, this gives the artist a little breathing room, but also, enough lapse in time that they feel a new #1 is needed.Phoenix8008 wrote:Too bad they're not just continuing in July with a #5 instead!

Re: Did Faith 1 get a gold because it's not a mini?
#1's are always good for sales, so I have no problem with them starting with a new #1 for the ongoing. The story was most likely created as a mini-series, so just transitioning to an ongoing numbering probably would be a little disjointed from a storytelling standpoint.
Faith has the chance to be a really good selling point for bringing on new readers, so I am behind Valiant doing anything they can to increase readership. I think Faith is one of their characters that has a lot of depth that can be explored and move in directions that I don't think a lot of their characters can pull off. I understand that Faith's storytelling style(s) isn't going to be for everyone, but I hope everyone supports her title as much as they can. This might be the character Valiant needs to take them to the next level. Just look at what's been going on over at Marvel.

Maybe with the golds the idea is "Hey, we haven't had a gold book for a couple of months ... any new No. 1s coming out?" They do so many conventions now I could see them needing a steady supply.

Thanks! When I asked a few weeks earlier, I was told the answer was coming. I figured, at the panel was the perfect time to see what was going on....slack wrote:Agent_graves, glad you were there, it was a great question.

Re: Did Faith 1 get a gold because it's not a mini?
Don't mean to offend here, but it's not up to you which books 'should get a gold' and which ones shouldn'tagent_graves wrote:That was me that mentioned that it shouldn't have got a Gold, because it's a mini. So Valiant's broken their (to date) trend of only ongoings getting gold books - what difference does it really make?
I also think that the idea that Valiant should owe their consumers gold books is misguided. VEI have no obligation to publish gold books at all, let alone any other kind of 'special' variant of a comic. Hell, if they decide to drop all their current titles and publish free comics to go inside McDonald's happy meals featuring the brand characters that's still their choice. The company owes its consumers nothing.

Re: Did Faith 1 get a gold because it's not a mini?
Of course not, but it would be nice. I think you're missing the point tho, they broke the rule, why not break it again. No, they don't owe me sh!t, and I wouldn't approach them like they did. I asked about a Gold Divinity a long time ago, and the answer then, was no, because it's a mini. So yeah, Faith getting a Gold, kind of rubbed me the wrong way, but I own that one now, signed by Dinesh, so I'm not tripping on any level, I'm still buying 90% of what they publish month to month, nothing has changed.Shadowman99 wrote:Don't mean to offend here, but it's not up to you which books 'should get a gold' and which ones shouldn't.agent_graves wrote:That was me that mentioned that it shouldn't have got a Gold, because it's a mini. Re: Did Faith 1 get a gold because it's not a mini?
While I think it's a little formulaic, I agree completely. Every media splash in the Valiant pond is a good one.DuncanBlieu wrote:Faith has the chance to be a really good selling point for bringing on new readers, so I am behind Valiant doing anything they can to increase readership. I'll also add that I agree with another poster: Her decision to throw off her disguise in broad view of co-workers to save lives breaks the formula in a good way.
