Ivar, Timewalker #12 Discussion

So, the glimpse of Ivar at the very end...

"Escaped from time jail like he promised" Ivar?

"Didn't die in the previous arc like we thought" Ivar?

"Viewing all continuum while in time jail" Ivar?

"Just visiting while hopping another arc" Ivar?

I got the impression he was "future Ivar"... an Ivar whose personal timeline is beyond any stories told up to this point.

I felt the same - that it was as a consequence of an escape somehow, that he cheated his fate, because that is the kind of thing Ivar does. But I also wondered if him being in shade was some kind of artistic foreshadowing that things may be turbulent between Ivar and Neela in future?

Amazing issue. I'm sad to see it end, but happy it is a complete story. This is the story I need most of all in a deluxe hardcover.

With time travelers, there's always wiggle room. We saw this story completed, but that doesn't mean there aren't others still to be told. While Ivar does say to Aram that he has to go save a girl, he could just have easily gone on many adventures in between in an attempt to delay the inevitable. He knows once he goes to save Neela that it will end with his death. He could have had a million stories in between. Not so different from what Clara was doing with her "sidekick" at the end of the most recent season.

And a new Unity series by FVL, where they are traveling through time to prevent the destruction of the universe...sounds a lot closer to the original Unity...at least in spirit. And if anyone can write the meeting of VALIANT characters through time, it's FVL. Bring it on!

Is anything confirmed about a new Unity and (hopefully) FVL writing it?

The recent FLV interview confirmed he has a project line up with Valiant that's not centered around the three brothers.
Judging by the ending of this issue, I'm 100% sure he's going to write the Unity reboot starring XO Manowar, Ninjak, Livewire, Armstrong and Neela the Timewalker.

No nothing confirmed, just a possibility based on where this issue finished and the fact that FVL says he's working on another VEI project.

FVL truly crafted a brilliant 12 issue arc -- with so many twists and surprises.

A truly compelling ... and tragic .. love story.

I'm still waiting to get my hands on this issue. Diamond shorted my LCS during the original ship date a couple weeks ago, so it was set to come in again with yesterday's shipment. It got shorted again though, so now I'm hopeful that it shows up in a couple more weeks. My LCS says he was told they aren't out of stock or anything, so it should show up eventually. I can't wait to get to read the end of this story, but I guess I'll have to.

Agreed. Too bad issue #12 couldn't have just been set up for a new status quo with Ivar & Co. though in a #13, new arc etc.

Just finished a reread of #1 - #12 in one sitting and man is this story epic! The great thing about it, apart from introducing Neela to the Valiant U, is that this isn't the end for Timewalker - there is still so much potential for further stories yet this run felt complete. It reads as a singular event yet for Valiant fans it's made all the more richer by knowing the backstory and ancillary material from other titles.

I think I'll be reading the following very soon as companion reads to Timewalker

Archer & Armstrong #0 - Boon
Valiant Sized Quantum and Woody #1 - further explores the concept of the alternative/multiverse
Archer & Armstrong #13 - Ivar is let out of his prison on the far far away by Archer and for context behing Earhart, the pilot used in Timewalker #8.
