SLCC 2015 - Need commission advice
I'm going to Salt Lake Comic Con this weekend. Unfortunately it's not a very comic-focused con. Mostly celebrities and things like that. There will be a few notable artists and I'd like to get a sketch cover done. I'm leaning towards getting one from Jim Calafiore, especially since he has a lot of history with Valiant. I'm thinking of asking him who his favorite Valiant character to draw is and having him do that, but am also interested in what you guys suggest.
The blank covers I have are:
I'll be representing VEI while I'm there the best I can. There is a world record attempt tomorrow night to get the largest gathering of comic book characters. I'll be going as the current Bloodshot. Much easier to do since he's regained his pigmentation.
I'll be wearing Valiant shirts each day as well. At a previous event Ed McGuinness told me he liked my Shadowman shirt. Hopefully I can get a few people more interested in Valiant.
The blank covers I have are:
- Rai #1
- Unity #1
- Q2 #1
- Ninjak #1
- The Valiant #1

Todd Nauck is great. Super friendly and does great work.
As far as your Valiant sketch, I always leave it up to the artist. I have a Marvel sketchbook and I always ask them to pick who they want to draw. I think (hope) it makes it a little more fun for them rather than saying "I want you to draw __ posed like this wearing this costume from this era." So I think asking Jim to draw his favorite is a great way to go.

Black Science. Lazarus. Birthright. Saga. Manifest Destiny. Deadly Class.

Sounds like a blast!

Calafiore is doing a Bloodshot sketch on The Valiant #1. I'm excited to pick it up tomorrow. He was fun to talk to.

Finally had some time to scan in the sketch I had done by Jim Caliafore.

Jim was telling me the cover stock on this book was very difficult to draw on, which is why he ended up using so much shadow. I think it looks sweet.
Also, here's my Bloodshot cosplay from Friday.

I was part of the world record for most comic book characters in one place. I think I was the only Valiant character. I had to explain to the guy letting people in who Bloodshot was, which made me sad. It was a lot of fun.
