Racing?
The vampire idea seemed a regurgitation/rehash of themes I feel we have seen in movies/TV/comics. The robot idea (prety terrible name: Crush-O; uggghhh!) was a bit more interesting, but again I feel has probably been done similarly. None of the ideas felt that 'new' to me.
But then, there are no new ideas as someone said...

The stuff was in the article:The Leaf wrote:Just think...what he could do with VALIANT. My mind was racing reading his ideas for the Platnum stuff.
Vampire X and Crush-O. neither seemed particularly original.
Your post indicated that reading that artcile got your mind racing. Perhaps you should have been a little more clear that your mind wasn't racing regarding the content of the article, but about Shooter's creativity.
Anyhoo, have we seen anything from JS since Unity 2000? I wans't impressed with the first issue of that, or the planned end. Maybe Jim's time in comics is done in creative terms. Just a thought...

About two years ago, Shooter had sent me a movie treatment, telling the story (in detail) for Vampire X, it was a GREAT read and I would have liked to see it in comic book form. It may not be a 'new' idea but I like military style stories anyways and just throw a vampire mix in there... well, I think I would have liked the book provided that the art could have been up to par with the reading.
I need to dig it back up and read it again (something I rarely do, but the read was so good I would actually read it again).
Face it... Shooter rocks (IMO).

I am on record as a Shooter fan..... and this article did nothing to chage it. I still havde an outside hope of Jim running DNV.Knightt wrote:About two years ago, Shooter had sent me a movie treatment, telling the story (in detail) for Vampire X, it was a GREAT read and I would have liked to see it in comic book form. I am not dismissing what Jim did, far from it. I am thankful especially for the New Universe and VALIANT, and every series that owes something to each of those universes. He is also responsible for secret wars which was excebale nonsense in my view. And let us not forget Unity 2000: is that how you wanted the curtain to close on VALIANT?Elveen wrote:I am on record as a Shooter fan..... and this article did nothing to chage it. Unity 2000 was a result of Fabian Nicieza's crap and VH 2. Had it not been for that then the 99 event would have involved Jack Boniface dying to destroy the Darque Power, not a lame Crisis on Infinite Earths rip off.
Shooter did what he could with what he was given and what he was asked, which was to get rid of the original VALIANT Universe so that Nicieza's crap could continue.

This was not the original intent of Unity 2000. Fabian's VH2 titles had long since been cancelled and Fabian himself hadn't been with the company for a number of years by that time. There was no plan to resurrect Fabian's VH2 program post Unity 2000.Shooter did what he could with what he was given and what he was asked, which was to get rid of the original VALIANT Universe so that Nicieza's crap could continue.

The ending of U2K shows the original VALIANT characters vanishing after Solar drinks magic ink and the VH 2 characters surviving, that's how the story ends.TimeWillTell wrote:This was not the original intent of Unity 2000. Perlham had plans to ignore that ending and do VH 3, with the Dr Mirage, Bloodshot, Magnus, and Harbinger reboots.
The Bloodshot reboot gave the character a new origin in the world of the supernatural while the Mirage reboot had him as a poor man's Dr Strange.
Either way, if it hadn't been for VH 2 existing in the first place, the 99 event wouldn't have involved a VALIANT multiverse, magic ink, variants of variants, or any of the other stuff in it, like Lucifer working at Wizard...

Doesn't change the fact that Shooter wrote it, however. He could have chosen to not write it. Or he could have chosen to submit a story returning the VH 1 set of characters. He didn't.ManofTheAtom wrote:The ending of U2K shows the original VALIANT characters vanishing after Solar drinks magic ink and the VH 2 characters surviving, that's how the story ends.TimeWillTell wrote:This was not the original intent of Unity 2000. But that's what he was going to do. The Dr Mirage and Bloodshot projects were neither VH 1 or VH 2, they were a completely different thing altogether. Just look at his Master Darque and compare him to the version that survives U2K. Sonicdan has a scan of it from Wizard that I sent to him.
How can it be that the VH 2 version survived U2K but the version that was going to appear in the Dr Mirage one shot was completely different?
Anthony K., who posted here as BloodofHeroes, shared all this information both here and on the old VALIANT mailing list. He even has scans of the Dr Mirage and Bloodshot reboots up on his webpage.
He mentioned many times that Perlham was going to ignore the ending of U2K and go in a completely different direction, and Perlham himself aknowledged this to me over in Usenet many years ago.

That's true, but the stuff with the original characters did feel like original VALIANT, though. Magnus and Gayle were in character, imo.leonmallett wrote:Yes, but Shooter had the option to not be the writer of that story...ManofTheAtom wrote:But that's not what Acclaim wanted, they wanted a story where the VH 2 characters would outlast the original ones.

http://www.geocities.com/angelo_mortall ... quinn.htmlAcclaim Comics has published two volumes of Bloodshot. The last time we saw either nanite-enhanced warrior was in Unity 2000, the not-yet-completed miniseries by Jim Shooter and Jim Starlin. During U2K's run, however, rumors began about a "VH-3," another version of the Acclaim Universe Valiant Heroes. James Perham admitted as much to yours truly at the Wizard World 2000 Convention, mentioning that characters slated for an overhaul included Dr. Mirage, Magnus, Robot Fighter, Harbinger, and Bloodshot. I, for one, couldn't wait to see the new Bloodshot. And then, Acclaim Entertainment, the parent corporation, announced that Acclaim would no longer publish comics. We've heard that before, and I think good business sense would dictate keeping these trademarks and copyrights alive, so let's not rule out Bloodshot, Volume 3 quite yet, all right? Especially after you see the artwork by the V3 penciler: Pat Quinn. I was fortunate to eventually force his name from a source who shall remain anonymous, and am I ever glad I did. Read on to get a little insight into the new Bloodshot and the amazing artist behind the dynamic new look. Please keep in mind that this is the first appearance of the new Bloodshot, anywhere. Thanks to Pat for his willingness to share his work with us and for his talent.
