Rai #7 - Full Issue

Post by nycjadie »

I just acquired the jewel of my collection - the inks for the full issue of Rai #7, minus the cover. It's the Unity issue with the death of Rai. There are a lot of interesting stats and cover ups. Most interesting are the copies of the alternate Page 1 splash. It's interesting to see the editorial changes made (e.g. covering up a bare chest, etc.). Some of the stats are loose and can be pulled back to reveal more original art. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to acquire this and am looking forward to reviewing it up closely even more.

So glad it stayed within the community. It is truly a historical issue with lots of great moments. Also glad to see it kept together. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible pages! Congrats on the win. I have the page from Solar #13 that also features the death of Rai.
One of the things I liked about Unity was seeing the same events from different points of view.

Thanks, guys. I am loving it and looking forward to spending some more time with it.

I don't know the story behind the splash change. I'd love to get the original splash inks, but have no idea what happened to them, if they exist. I just have a few photocopies. I might have to ask Kathryn Bollinger!

Congrats on the win!

(I'd forgotten about that second splash... I don't think I have the inks)
I'll keep an eye out, though. If it turns up here, I'll let you know!

Atleast you got the published splash! Maybe the photocopied one was the rejected first version?

BTW, there are 4 more "complete" issues in play (out there somewhere, sold to Mike Carbonaro, now probably in Anthony's desk).

-- Magnus #9
-- Rai #6
-- RaiFF #11
-- RaiFF #13

Just thought you might like to know what to look for... if you're looking. :)

Rai # 6 is now on Ebay. I went to the ComicArtCon in Secaucus on Sunday. The guy that works with Anthony I forget his name said they had other complete issues as well (he said the Magnus issue was sold to a guy named Magnus), and I should E-mail them to workout deal before they post the rest on Ebay. Of course he doesn't respond and now Rai# 6 is on Ebay. I guess they want to cash in after Rai#7

 The prices on comic art has gone absolutely insane. Bechara (Nostalgic investments) had a Joe St Pierre Rai splash from Rai#3, (he knew nothing about it) his asking price: $2800.00---sure he can charge whatever he wants but that is asinine. I personally think the dealers are hurting the hobby. Whenever I go, its always the same dealers, same pieces with the same crowd. These high end pieces just move in circles amongst the same collectors
