I was only at SDCC for one day, but I had an hour or so away from the business stuff to check out art dealers. Most did not have anything, but this one guy shocked me by pulling out this puppy:

His price was $1,250 (Aram told me same guy offered it to him on Fri for $1,500). I ended up talking him down to $1,100.

He seemed to think it was a commission, but I seem to remember seeing this art on a print that was done and colored. The biggest thing about this piece is the size. Check out my assistant Nick holding this page:

My guess... LITERALLY JUST A GUESS...
... is that it was commissioned by Dynamic Forces in 2005 thinking they were going to blackmail for the rights to make prints. (VIP was Dynamic Forces/Dynamite (sucks!) Entertainment)

Then, when they didn't get permission, they had Bob adjust the image to JUST the Gold Key properties for the print they solicited in 2005:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=5291

BUT... Dynamic Forces didn't have permission to use Erica Pierce (Mothergod) or Geoff because they're Valiant, not Gold Key, so they cancelled the print altogether.

There are references to the Magnus/Solar print being sold out... but it was cancelled.

Found it:

Bob did it for fun. Most impressive. The reporting from SDCC has been good for beautiful art.

PS, the one Greg found is listed here:

This is truly an amazing piece. As Bob says on his website, this is the best gift for a Valiant fan.
