New Valiant Fan Art Thread
I searched through the old art posts for a Fan Art thread to use, and only a couple of really old ones in a sorry state of disuse surfaced. Most if not all the art on them had been moved or deleted from their original source...
So, I hope no one minds if I start up a fresh one. It looks like we may still have a few talented folks hanging around here, maybe we can get a good thread happening again - possibly even achieve a sticky status for it?
I'd like to kick it off with a rough pencil sketch I was working on last night... apologies for the poor image quality, I had to snap a pic with my iPhone as my scanner is a goner and I have yet to replace it. This baby is also unfinished in places [and thus has mistakes yet to be corrected], so a second apology to all if it looks like crap art. It will get better before I finish, I promise!!

I have never been able to properly attach a head or arm to a body and make it look anything close to anatomically adequate...so I will never pass judgement on any artist. Looks good to me, any way.

I think it's fantastic! I really like the proportion and especially the detail in the arms and muscles in general. Anatomy is something that has always eluded me for some reason when drawing and I think you did a fine job with it on this drawing. Would love to see more.

Re: New Valiant Fan Art Thread
Thanks very much, fella's - I'll definitely post the finished drawing here when its done... I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but there's a link to my deviantart page in my signature if anyone is curious to see what my 'finished' style looks like.
Hopefully some more fan art comes out of the woodwork here, *I* would love to see more!

Re: New Valiant Fan Art Thread
Nicely done, Greg! That image really lends itself to Warhol-ification. I see another fan art thread surfaced in the general valiant topic board... I did not search there before starting this one up. Is that a better location for this? Any chance of gaining a 'sticky' status?

Re: New Valiant Fan Art Thread
Managed to complete my drawing in what I call my 'rough ink' stage... from here i have to trace the whole thing over onto a fresh sheet of paper before doing up a marker rendering for all the shading.
I wish I could skip the tracing stage, but I make a lotta mistakes, and usually destroy the paper from erasing so much... which doesn't work well with markers...

I like the Mandelbrotian aspect of the rough inks on the circle in the background.grendeljd wrote:

Wow - I had to look that one up!! Who's the bigger nerd this week - the guy who knew what that was, or the guy who actually looked it up out of curiosity?greg wrote:I like the Mandelbrotian aspect of the rough inks on the circle in the background.

Odd coincidence is all I can say about the bloody splatter pattern... though I am an industrial electrician by day, so somewhere deep in my subconscious mind there could be a mathematical paradigm working its influence on my conscious activities...
scary thought.
