Another artist switch, perhaps? Dark Horse was notorious for that with the CGW line of books.

No, there was a preview posted a few weeks ago, and a reviewer who had a copy of the issue posted a review a few days ago. There's no artist change:

According to Magnus #2's letter page, Solar #3 will be out Oct. 27.

The most likely explination is a delay in order to "Get it right". Sounds like Diana Schutz is back in charge 8-)

Doctor Solar 5 has been moved to a release date of January 6th. Thanks second_death, for the info. Yeah, there's also a book scheduled for release January 5th. :hm:
Second-death also points out new release dates for February, which I'm now adding to the top post.

What's with all the delays? Are delays common with Dark Horse?

Turok #1 was released on 10/13 and Turok #2 is being released on 12/22 (assuming no futher delays) - that's 10 weeks between issues. I am guessing that Turok #3 will be pushed back at some point since DH still has a 1/5 release date.

More delays? Yeesh...not a good way to start off a new line of books.

I think they should have stuck with a more tradition shipping date to start with. Never liked the 6 week schedule.

Looking at Solar and Magnus, Solar has been pretty consistent given the change in artists. The delay in Magnus is much worse than Solar. If it's going to be 10 weeks between issues, I may as well just wait for the TPBs.

Solar #1: 7/14/2010
Solar #2: 9/8/2010 (8 weeks)
Solar #3: 10/6/2010 (4 weeks)
Solar #4: 12/1/2010 (8 weeks)

Magnus #1: 8/4/2010
Magnus #2: 10/13/2010 (10 weeks)
Magnus #3: 12/22/2010 (10 weeks)

I wonder if this is really just a symptom of the move to trade paperbacks. It seems as if the idea of a monthly publication has taken a backseat to TPB, where as 20 years ago the emphasis was the monthly publication and the TPB were secondary. If TPB are the primary source of revenue then it would explain the publishing schedule, in that there is no real drive to create or meet a schedule other than in general terms, because the primary market is the TPB.
At this point a consistent publishing schedule for the Gold Key line doesn't seem to be a priority at DH. In truth we have to realize this line is a niche line at the moment, and they may even be losing money on it as whole. Perhaps if the line grows a following it may earn a higher priority and more focus on the monthly publishing. Unfortunately, I think the long spans between issues diminishes that growth.
I hope they are able to work it out, and 2011 will be a better year for the line.

I know what you mean! I'm excited for the new ones to come out but, to be honest, I'm not nearly as excited as I used to be!!!! It doesnt have to be monthly titles for me but, DAMN, can they not maintain some type of schedule at all. One that they can meet! I really wish Jim would speak out on this issue and let us know what the reasons are behind this!!! :atomic:
