Getting a new game system..... help

Post by Elveen »

So we have a had a wii for a bit, enjoyed it.

So I bought my kids the Disney Infinity....... and found out that it is lame on the wii, so many parts of the game is not available on the wii. So I think we have decided on upgrading to a new system.

Here is my issue...... which system.

To me, these are the options:

xbox 360 - this is what I am leaning towards
xbox1
(I guess) wiiU (really only for the Mario games). The big reason for NOT the wii is the xbox Kinect. It is just so much better than the wii dance games. If the wiiU had a kinect type thing, I'd do it.

What do you dudes think. Know that I'm not a big 1st person shooter gamer dude, and I don't think I'd really ever buy a game for me. I like playing the games with my kids, the Lego games, Mario type games.

The BIG reason I need a new system is so my girls can play the Disney Infinity.

I guess the real question is ...... I don't need to get the xbox 1 ...... right?

They are going to keep making xbox 360 games right?

I just read an article the other day that said that both Xbox 360 and PS3 will continue to develop new games at least until 2015. I'm probably going to wait until that point to get a next gen system. I'm perfectly happy with my 360 and Wii for now.

+1

also keep in mind that online content on the wii is free access (netflix, etc) where as on the x-box you need to pay for an xbox live membership...

I do agree on the kinnect interface...motion recognition is pretty kewl...my sons rarely use it though (they play shooters...)
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

Definitely get a 360 slim. Kinect can go either way. It is fun, but might just sit there collecting dust 99% of the time.

Reasons for the 360.. There are tons of games appropriate for the kiddos and you can get them cheap new or used. Lego games are much better on the 360 than the wii.

Reason for the WiiU.. new Mario, Zelda, etc. blu-ray like discs that may theoretically last your lifetime.

Reason's not to get a 360.. Discs are just dvd's that can get scratched. If you want to do online things like netflix, you have to pay for gold membership.

Reason's not to get a WiiU.. $$$.. currently very limited game library.

Bottom Line..

I have MANY Systems and at least a couple hundred games for them.. But My kids just play Xbox 360 and 3ds 99% of the time.

Definitely Get a 360 slim when you can get a good deal new or used, with or without a kinect. If you get a hard drive model you can load your games on it and then it will only use the disc to verify when it starts, thus extending the life of your games.

Absolutely do not get an older model as they had failure rates estimated as high as 50%(red ring of death). I don't know of any real problems with the slim model and have had no problems ever with mine.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Been wanting to get a WiiU for the new Mario games and Pikmin 3. And the 3DS for the Zelda Link To The Past remake.

That is a cool feature of the Wii U. Keep your eye out for future price drops and you might be able to pick up a 360 for a pretty decent price and have both systems.

All good reasons. Nintendo also treats its customers better than Microsoft.

Glad you guys are enjoying it. We love ours, too. Right now, I'm playing with the Vita the most. We just bought a game called Tearaway which is tons of fun. It uses all of the gimmicks of the Vita (rear touchscreen, front touchscreen, both cameras, microphone, etc.) and it's made by the studio that did LittleBigPlanet (one of my favorite games to play with family). Very cutesy, very straightforward, but very very fun.

This of course is of no concern to you since you were talking about your WiiU, but we only have Mario for it so far.
*SQUEE* your science, I have a machine gun.
