I'm guilty of having to call in sick in the past, because I was up until 3am playing some of these games. Damn you, Diablo! Damn you!
If you like diablo, angband is diablo without graphics...well there are but they suck...I just play in ascii mode... :thumb:

You and I have posted about that before ... Angband might be one of the best-designed games ever made (so long as graphics aren't a priority ... or if a D scares you).

Last time I played it was on a Mac. What is the best Windows version?

I've been playing a version called TOME alot lately (troubles of middle earth) version 2.3.3. I also like the Sangband variant, Oangband variant and Eyangband variant...all have different things going on...Tome is probably the furthest away from true angband...actually has skills that you add points to every time you level up, has multiple dungeons and towns and is in constant development.

http://angband.oook.cz has links to all the most up to date stuff. I know the ToMe website is run off the same server...I believe the Thangorodrim website is unupdated for over a year; the maintainer left.

The thing I don't like about this game is that you HAVE to play 5 card draw and 7 card stud to move on certain weeks. I bought it to play Texas Hold-em not these other ancient games.

I have to agree with you on this It's flustrating when you feel like playing Texas and you have to play something else. I'm on week 65-66 or something so it's not so bad right now.

Been playing Bard's Tale on Xbox that past few days. The game is GREAT loaded with tons of blue humor and snide remarks from THE HERO !!! Having a blast.

Also, turned off the lights and turned UP the sound while I sat there with my son as he watched me play F.E.A.R. uhhh, he asked if he could stop watching and go back to his room. Lil dude was wiggin !!!!  Yeah, I expect him to be knocking on my door sometime tonight "Dad, I think I hear things in my room."

I have a GBA emulator for my computer. Have you tried one of these ? It makes a GREAT way to 'try before you buy'.

I hate to admit it but I have been dabbling in GBA ever since I picked up a GBA Micro (each) for my kids as a suprise gift for getting As all year long in school. So, my lil trooper gladly donated is GB SP to 'the old man'.

BTW, I was able to pick up those GBA Micros for only $60 at the PX... is that a good price ?

Don't know if it's a good price as I use man's hand-held...Nintendo DS.

I finished the NEW Super Mario Bros for the DS and bought a used copy of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It's a pretty decent game. :thumb:

Well I checked the PX today and they still have more of them at $60 and NO tax. If anyone is interested in one just PM me and we can work something out as far picking one up. The price tag on them is $90 or $95 (if I remember correctly) so at $60 with no tax, I guess not bad. I asked what was 'wrong' with them. The girl said nothing but they had bought so many of them and they just did not sell so they are trying to get rid of them. Sometimes you can even barter with those folks in the PX, so maybe I could get them to go down on the price a few bucks more but I have had no reason to as of yet... as I picked up two for my straight A kids.

I've been looking at my Diablo box and thinking about reinstalling it. But I think my wife would miss me.

Diablo II rocked but I always liked that music in the original Diablo.

The second one was a technically superior game, but I'm still partial to the first one. Despite the improvements of the second one, it just didn't grab me and suck me in and make me play it for weeks straight with only periodic snack and bathroom breaks like the first one did.

I remember playing Diablo til the WEE hours of the morning. Grabbing two hours of sleep, going to work, coming home, beating the kids, playing Diablo til the WEE hours of the morning... it's a vicious cycle.

Yep. I was in college at the time, so my cycle was play Diablo till the WEE hours of the morning, down a Jolt Cola and some vienna sausages, play Diablo some more, pee, play Diablo until time for class, skip class to play Diablo, sleep a couple hours, play Diablo...
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I think Diablo took my grocery money for that week... :)
