The latest info regarding Milestone Media came from WW: Chicago where DC said there had been talks recently with Dwayne McDuffie about returning to the characters, after which Dwayne stated on his blog that it had been 3 years since he spoke to anyone at DC about it.

Dwayne and another former MM alum are involved in BET's new animation division and McDuffie is developing a series for them.

Can anyone give me some info on who owns these characters? There seemed to be some subtext in the last Milestone miniseries (Static Shock) that DC wasn't letting these characters go.

If Milestone was "a comic book company owned by African-Americans" that was "printed and distributed through a special arrangement with DC Comics" why would he still have to negotiate with DC about it?

There were originally 4 or 5 founders (including Christopher Priest) of Milestone Media. The indicia on the comics suggest ownership by DC, but the MM folks always maintained that was just to do with the way the comics were published. I think that the ownership is just between 2 people now (Dwayne McDufffie and A.N. Other - ie someone else), but I'm hazy on this. But I think it is a complex issue and as much as I love Milestone, Dwayne never seems to give a full clear answer (but then maybe he can't for legal or future plans reasons). The more I think of it, the more I realsie that the (potential) futures of both VALIANT and Milestone are mired in cloudy uncertainty!

I'm pretty sure that it's Milestone that owns the characters, but DC has the publishing rights and that's why they both need to come to an agreement to publish or use the characters in comics.

Here are two recent articles, mostly about BET Animation, but discuss Milestone and the current plans for them: Catching up with Denys Cowan and Two Milestone Alumni Together at BET Animation.

I finally bit the bullet and bought the platinum edition of Xombi 1. Anyone know of any other variants or incentive books from Milestone?

Whilst I am at it, anyone have a dupe of Blood Syndicate 32 to sell/trade?

I have this one issue (unless there are other variants) for a complete reading set as far as I am aware. Replacing the opened bagged books will be next...

I thought there were some great comics in that line. I have most of them but am missing a lot of the later issues. I looked around for them a couple of years ago, but they are almost impossible to find.

I think the print runs on some of the late stuff is really, really low. Like Armorines 4 low.

Nearly completing my set has been very, very, arduous at times.
The early stuff is much easier to find.

Glad to know others liked this line. :thumb:

I'd really like to see DC/Milestone collect more of these titles. Particularly finishing ICON and STATIC.

Agreed. I imagine some of the later minis (Wise Son particularly for example) are pretty hard to find as I would imagine they had low print runs.

I only know of the two TPBs (Icon 1-8 and Static Shock: Rebirth of the Cool 1-4). Any others?

Now we just need to convince the newly promted moderator of the need for an issue list. :D

My arguments for this:
1. There were some 'premium' books (platinum). Also bagged editons of first-issue books.
2. There are quite a few mini-series, so some can be missed by folks new to the line.
3. Not all series came out on a precisely monthly schedule IIRC at the end (Icon specifically), and books were advertised within the books that as far as I know did not appear (Icon 43, Hardware 51).
4. There were at least two TPB's I know of.
5. I love this line and am close to completion (but less close than I thought, say about one week ago... :D ).

Okay that last one is all about me, but the rest are good reasons, hey Knightt? :thumb:

If Knightt allows a sticky post here's a site with all the commons listed
http://milestone.luthor.com/ , you would just have to add in the variants and premiums to the list :thumb:

Those are the only two I'm aware of. I believe the Static one has a second printing with a cover showing the cartoon version of the character.

Thanks. I have PMed Knightt and I plan to assemble an issue list for this DU, so any input will be much appreciated.

There are some pretty good ideas in there, and Eric Battle's art in the later issues was enjoyable for me.

If I come across any on the cheap I'll pick em up and give em a fair shot once again. I never got into Blood Syndicate or Static (Seemed geared more towards little kids) when they were new either, but always liked the artwork even on Kobalt :thumb: :thumb:
