Print run of catalyst prime superb. Lion forge

Post by Phantom »

Just wondering what the print run of the title is.
Forgot how to check it.
Is it in diamonds top 300? Searched internet but just went in circles
Current issue is 17
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Found nothing but think I found website.
Likewise one sold 2250? Pretty low number.

Comichron is your best bet. I did a quick search and found Issue 9 to have a run of 775, Issue 15 was 501 etc. Very low.

Comichron isn't actually print runs, it's the number of comics shipped to stores (in N. America presumably).

Catalyst Prime is a mystery to me, they only show up on the very bottom of the Comichron chart shipping numbers under 1000. There's no way that can even pay for a print run, let alone creative teams, editors, etc. I assume they must have some deep pocket funder, but even then how can you justify continuing to throw money down a hole without even trying something different :?

I was thinking that their numbers couldn't keep the comic in print. Print numbers must be wrong, or international orders high.
Lion forge who print catalyst prime, seem to have a bigger and broader publishing interest. Have not looked into it much, but noticed it on their web site.
They might sell more comics and trades outside if diamond if they are selling books etc elsewhere.
Might check lion forge website again now.
You never know - they maybe hitting a younger audiance, selling their trades to schools and librarys

Wiki note on cover page says diamond distribution _ which it dies use. As diamond UK is where I get the book from via a comic shop. International orders not counted in diamond sales.

In wiki page itself lion forge also uses IDW distribution network.

Was an interesting read actually. Quite big a company, but maybe not in diamond sales. Surer now it is a self supporting. Think their trades must be in a lot of schools.

wrote to Lion Forge awhile back.
Just saying how much I enjoyed the book, and was looking to buy some variants or tshirt ~ but they have no online shop.
They replied saying they will send me some swag.
I replied ~ thanks, but I am in the UK. So it will be prohibitive to send anything, but thanks for the thought.
Just received in the post a really nice note, fantastic t~shirt(really well made), loin forge patch, neck card holder(lanyard) signed card from artist promoting the upcomming crossover.

Super cool

Mystery solved. The head of Lion Forge is David Steward II, son of David Steward aka the "The Second Richest Black Man In America" worth 4 billion. https://www.celebritynetworth.com/artic ... n-fortune/

I'm not saying anything about the quality of the books, I only read a couple and they seemed fine. I was just curious about the economics of it and how they managed to make it work with such few copies shipped to stores.

I noticed on Amazon UK that the volume 1 tpbs were aggressively/competitively priced at a very reasonable £8-£9 GBP (against a typical £10 to 313 for a 4-6 issue big two tpb), which makes me wonder if that format and digital is their real primary market?

I do wish there was more buzz about the line as there are some good books in there.
