How Does Marvel Respond To DC's Relaunch?
Does Marvel respond, and if so, how? I think they're going to have to do something when they see the new market share numbers in a few months. They're probably already scrambling now.

Great question dude !!
Im not sure they have to do anything really.
They aren't industry leaders by pushing too many books we don't need, although it would be nice if they stopped that a bit too.
They have an all round better line of titles that have either had a solid run for a few years un interrupted, or corrupted by too many new creative teams and glitches in what we consider major continuity.
Even if DC are successful with the new launch (and it will be successful), it will probably still fall short of Marvel when the dust settles after 12 months and the whole new DC line is up and running.
Sure there will be some gems and some that fall short of 12 maybe six months before being cancelled, but again even after those 12 months, Marvel still have a good few years head start on them.
Marvel have been banging out crossovers that people buy in droves and have been complaining less about too. From House of M and Decimation through (past WWHulk) Secret Invasion and Dark reign to the new lighter (though not really, lol) Heroic age it all sells and works, with only cover prices being a major talking point.
Let's not forget that Marvel always seem to have smaller events happening too, also seen to be bought in high numbers with less whining.
This is why this is so important for DC to get right and build on.

If they scrap Vertigo, I'd almost be out of new comics in general. Some of the best runs of the last ten years have been from this line: Fables, 100 Bullets, Y the Last Man, Luficer and countless otheres.400yrs wrote:There is talk that they may scrap Vertigo.xodacia81 wrote:Marvel, DC...whatever. I only really enjoy 4 monthly books, Fables, Invincinble, Hellboy/BPRD and Uncanny X-men. With this and the Uncanny relaunch this might be the nail in the coffin for me.

I would really be surprised if that happened. Vertigo has such brand name out there and great works attached to it. Preacher, Y: The Last Man, Watchmen, Fables, etc.400yrs wrote:There is talk that they may scrap Vertigo.xodacia81 wrote:Marvel, DC...whatever. I just want good books. I can only see it happenning if they were going to try and bring it into the DCU, like they are doing with Wildstorm. I really hope this is not true.

Watchmen was released before Vertigo came into being.caxiotis wrote:I would really be surprised if that happened. Vertigo has such brand name out there and great works attached to it. I don't think it will be the Punisher. He's getting a new series in August that Greg Rucka is writing, so I doubt they'd pull the plug on him so soon.ian_house wrote:Marvel will release a load of new number 1s and anniversary issues switching back and forth through numbering as they have done for years. Then kill off a character that used to be REALLY big, but is having some trouble recently. Cyclops? Punisher?
Don't know who else they could kill who's high profile enough to make a difference.
Maybe the Hulk?

Yeah was just testing names. Not a big Marvel reader. They've done Reed, USM, Nightcrawler and Cap in the last few years, so looking at where next.Tim wrote:I don't think it will be the Punisher. There a big death due in Fear Itself/Schism?
