What comics are you reading now?

Everything else comic-related that's not VALIANT-related.

The beautiful Alex Ross art was offset by really crappy "futuristic" hero designs. I wonder if Alex designed all of those terrible looking costumes?
I've read that Magog/Gog was designed as a statement against Rob Liefeld type characters and designs. IIRC Liefeld took it as a complement and he hired Ross to do some design and cover work on Alan Moore's run on Supreme.

You should try James Robinson's Starman. GREAT ending

Still Reading DH Conan TPBs.

But I did also read the latest Chew book. Still good, but it was the first time I've read a Chew book and not been completely satisfied. It seemed short.

Animal Man #20 - First issue since the year long Rotworld crap and it was refreshingly ace. It follows up on last years issue Tights which showed us the first half of Buddy Baker's film being watched by Cliff. Now we see the second half yet the stakes have changed as Cliff is no longer the viewer and this issue seems alot darker than the first half did. Brilliant stuff.

Detective Comics #19 (I think) - Final show down with Emperor Penguin and end of Layman's first arc. It wasn't great to be honest as an arc, the RIP issues took the wind out of the sales for this arc but I think Layman could do well. This issue had some good moments, especially those that dealt with Penguin (Cobblepot), yet I thought Ogilivy wasn't really very convincing and his metamorphosis rushed (probably due to the RIP issues).

Just went through Avengers Arena. Having not been a reader of Marvel for the past 15 years, I am familiar with X-23 and DarkHawk, I have read Avengers Academy and am familiar with Chase. Kid Britton is a concept I understand but otherwise, I really don't know these characters all that well.

Therefore, I am enjoying this series.

I haven't read 'The Hunger Games', I have seen it and of course 'Battle Royale'. I can understand people hating on this series if they have a strong connection with these characters and if written poorly this could be boring schlock but I feel this series is written quite well, the tone and humour is properly off-set with the heart and has a good story telling method to it. I am genuinely engaged by the characterizations and the drama unfolding.

What I do worry about is a follow-up to this series but if the sales are solid enough, it's probably inevitable.

One of my favorite runs. A lot of people didn't like it because they found the storyline & writing hard to follow, but I've never understood why that is. It's not simplistic reading, but it's not overly complex.

It's a shame Morrison somewhat dumbed down the following Batman arcs he has been on. There's still a lot of the typical Morrison-isms, but it pales in comparison to RIP. The only arc which comes close is the final run on Batman & Robin.

Chew is great, but I'm way behind.

MP just gets weirder, and more awesome. #11 was almost normal, though.

I keep meaning to read this. Too many comic books to read is a good problem to have, though.
Me too. I think I have an Amazon gift card somewhere. I think I'm going to buy the full run of these TPBs.
I can let you borrow them if you'd like.

TSG is solid! The third arc gets a bit bland, but the fourth is really good.

That looks pretty fun. I like Buccellato. Is it tied in to most of the other Dynamite stuff? I'm not a big fan of their connected universe.

Marshal Law: The Deluxe Edition about damn time Law got a half way decent collection. I'm not sure if it's a good or a bad thing that the last 3 mini-series (Pinhead vs. Marshal Law, Savage Dragon/Marshal Law and The Mask vs. Marshal Law) weren't included partially because it felt like Mills and O'Neill didn't know what to do with Marshal Law (this is especially true with The Mask vs. Marshal Law where it felt like O'Neill was bored out of his mind drawing it and just dialed it in) and to advoid copyright problems. I would love to see the character return because there are a lot of super-heroes who need their @$$es handed to them.

Right now I'm alternating between Dragon Age: The World of Thedas and Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne a prose novel.

Next up comic book wise will most likely be: The Transformers: Robots In Disguise and The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye #14-16, The Transformers: Spotlights Orion Pax, Bumblebee, Megatron, Thundercracker, Trailcutter, Hoist, Saga #11-12, Sex #2, and Batwoman #18 and #19.

Just read the entire Authority run. Very good stuff. Loved Art Adams art! First read it because it was Garth Ennis, but I found his first two story arcs VERY fast paced. Two galaxy saving missions in 8 issues. Felt very rushed. When Millar came on, it felt like a great paced story, and actually got to know more about the characters.
Also reading Animal Man from '88 right now. But there's a thread about that going already.
I usually like reading only Valiant, but there's too much time between new books, so I have branched out a bit. LOVED The Boys, Irredeemable. Very happy to be finding some great stuff NOT by the big two.
