It does seem odd, but apparently the first run of Detectvie Comics ended its run at 881. SO 19 was technically the 900th of the series as it was only renumbered for the new 52.lorddunlow wrote:That seems like a win-win to me.chriskay99 wrote:It's might be a little messy to get it sorted out, but I'd like to see them do a legacy numbering. Hickman also cracked me up on Twitter when EoW #11 came out. He said:
East of West #11 is out today. A good jumping on point is #1.

He is really harsh on that kind of stuff. I know at a con he had stated he couldn't wrap his head around the idea of 25.1 or 25.NOW and treating it like a jumping on point also saying that he's never written a jumping on point in his life. All this while sitting next to to Stephen Wacker.lorddunlow wrote:Hickman also cracked me up on Twitter when EoW #11 came out. He said:

I think Chiclo described the feeling of reading a Hickman book - It's like you missed an issue even when you start at #1. I love it, though.

They did that for awhile and it was used to justisifed the revert the new numbering back to originial numbering. Honestly I just want one number on the cover not two.lorddunlow wrote:That seems like a win-win to me.chriskay99 wrote:It's might be a little messy to get it sorted out, but I'd like to see them do a legacy numbering. I'd like an equation that you need to figure out before you can read the book.Cyberstrike wrote:They did that for awhile and it was used to justisifed the revert the new numbering back to originial numbering. That's awesome. Regarding EoW, I can't imagine how you could make sense of it all without starting at #1. Even then I'm still not sure I understand everything.lorddunlow wrote:I think Chiclo described the feeling of reading a Hickman book - It's like you missed an issue even when you start at #1. Re: Is anyone else getting sick of the constant Marvel Nows
I just read in CSN that Marvel is rebooting the Hulk (again) to #1... without changing the story line. The continuity remains, they're just slapping a #1 on it.
This is preposterous. Why don't they just make every issue #1?

I really hope that one day we'll be looking back at this period and say "yeah, that was during the 'reboot' Era of comics when nothing made it past 25 issues. Everyone realized how stupid it was so now we keep the numbering going."
Hopefully we're not telling our grandchildren "Back in my day, comic books went on for hundreds of issues. Not like your comics that restart their numbering once every year."

Hulk 1 just came out on April 16th. They can't be rebooting it already.jmatt wrote:I just read in CSN that Marvel is rebooting the Hulk (again) to #1... without changing the story line. The continuity remains, they're just slapping a #1 on it.

I have serious fears that Marvel comics will barely be able to make it to Issue 10 within the next year.

Even if they did that, it would take years for the number of other X-Men #1s to outnumber the copies of '90s X-Men #1jxm640 wrote:Oh please do!! Depends on what you mean by "changing the story line"; I took a peek at the new issue and it seems that due to being shot in the head in some previous issue (probably the last issue of the previous series? ) he now has "irreversible" brain damage, so I guess that sets up a new dynamic ("irreversible" in quotes because we all know how much anything in the big 2 is irreversible)jmatt wrote:I just read in CSN that Marvel is rebooting the Hulk (again) to #1... without changing the story line. How is a brain damaged Hulk different from a regular Hulk?

Don't read the book so I can't be specific. But the blurb stated that the events of the prior run would be in place during the "relaunch" or reboot.kjjohanson wrote:Depends on what you mean by "changing the story line"; I took a peek at the new issue and it seems that due to being shot in the head in some previous issue (probably the last issue of the previous series? ) he now has "irreversible" brain damage, so I guess that sets up a new dynamic ("irreversible" in quotes because we all know how much anything in the big 2 is irreversible)

I don't read thew book either. Just kinda flipped through it in the store. But it seems like the shooting event was a turning point, which I suppose is enough qualification for a new #1 these days.jmatt wrote:Don't read the book so I can't be specific. That's the reboot in question. Marvel is a little relaunch happy when you break it down. They had announced that Death of Wolverine storyline a year ago as an issue 6 when the book at the time was I think the book was just past that.Jace wrote:Hulk 1 just came out on April 16th. Also DC is getting just as bad. Teen Titans is relaunching at #1 one month after ending at 30 with a new creative team, same character line-up, and continuing storylines.

Yes I was just talking to someone about that today. Why cancel Teen Titans and Suicide to just restart them. Though the team line-ups and creative teams are different at least. Marvel relaunched Daredevil with the SAME CREATIVE TEAM. Insanity truly.

Bruce Banner gets shot in the head by unknown assassin. He transforms into the Hulk to save his life, but now can't change back (this sounds to me a bit like Peter David's smart Hulk arc, where Banner merges the grey and green, Hulk personas and this creates a new super-smart and strong Hulk but he can't or is unable to change back Banner and when he finally does change back to Banner it's now Banner who is now the dumb savage) and Iron Man supposedly has the means to save Banner's life but it could be dangerous to Banner, the Hulk, himself, and the whole Marvel 616 Universe.kjjohanson wrote:Depends on what you mean by "changing the story line"; I took a peek at the new issue and it seems that due to being shot in the head in some previous issue (probably the last issue of the previous series? ) he now has "irreversible" brain damage, so I guess that sets up a new dynamic ("irreversible" in quotes because we all know how much anything in the big 2 is irreversible)jmatt wrote:I just read in CSN that Marvel is rebooting the Hulk (again) to #1... without changing the story line. Really the only thing new other than the story is the artist Mark Bagley joins the creative team. This is a classic jumping on/off point for readers it's NOT a reason for a new #1.

I don't mind them relaunching stuff, just as long as they keep the volume listed in the indicia...vol. 2, #25...at least then if you're completing a run you can't get confused as to what you've got and what you don't.

This will end when buyers say "Another relaunch #1?" and pass on the book or simply don't pick up multiple copies. Like the variant madness, it will end the moment it stops juicing the numbers.
And for all I know that day might never arrive. But until it does, we can expect to see more of this.

How about just a release date on the cover? Dates are just as easy to keep in sequential order as numbers.
