Whovian's House of Valiant Goodies

Post by whovianone »

Well, many have read my story before, but I have collected comics since 1981 except for a few lapses. Alpha Flight 1 and FF 257 were my first purchase at a 7-11 down the street from a public pool we used to frequent when I was a kid. So, by the time Valiant hit the stands I was about to graduate high school. I remember seeing early Solar and Harbinger issues on the shelf, but our little tiny LCS didn't order the early issues in great abundance. And, although I had a file and asked for some of the books I didn't always get them. This holds true for some of the later issues as they had given up on them. But, I lost the bulk of my collection when I was in my late 20's about 10 years ago, and had to work to build it back up. But, it has only been the last few years that I've been able to hit the convention circuit and build up the Valiants I once had, or never had, in any great amount. But, I'm proud of the few things I've put together, and will post them here. I'll post more later, as I seem to get something really neat once a month or so.

So, on with the show....

This was my first unusual Valiant purchase. I picked it up on Ebay for an astounding $15 shipped! Mamma raised a fine bargain hunter! :thumb:

For those who don't know, CGC will have a book encased with the autograph and/or sketch of your favorite artist, creator, or celebrity and they give it this snazzy little yellow/gold label. I've grown quite fond of them, and am working on a set of Valiant #1 issues in "Signature Series" 9.2 or better. I only have a couple right now, plus a couple more that are in transit to me, but I'll get there one day.

This is my other CGC SS at the moment. Just like a VVSS pretty much, but take a look at that snazzy label, huh? ;)

I never stumbled across a copy of this I could afford before the crash. But, it's turned into one of my favorite covers of all time.
