Rai #5 (2019) Discussion

Post by Dallow Spicer1 »

Helloooooo......is anyone out there? Is this where Valiant fans hang out?

Well if this post gets discovered in the future then this book is worth reading and comfortably the best Valiant is putting out right now (which we know isn’t saying too much right now but it’s still a good book). This finishes off the latest adventure of Rai and Raijin who have re-connected with Gilad and join forces to defend an agricultural site against Fathers forces.

Solid read 4/5 :thumb:

Yeah, talking about comic (new or old) content seems extinct here. Keep it to slab, back issue sales, and a whole other publisher.

I listened to VCR yesterday and those guys all had issues with plot points. I didnt think twice about what they were complaining about.

I'm really enjoying the story. Other than one weird panel Ryp was completely let loose this issue and it was absolutely awesome.

Sure, you don't know what's bad until you read it. :D

Of course the art is great, and this issue had a lot of action and good banter between Rai and Gilad. But I still don’t like the direction of the book, plot, antagonist etc... :?

I love this series but I thought this was the weakest issue so far. Still better than anything else they have going.

So I thought about this quite a bit. The reason I talk about the things that stick out are for good or bad. Issue 5 had things that bugged me. I love that I can do deep dives on these stories because so many comics you can not. When I re read a comic I love finding new things that I missed on a initial read through. That makes a book great, good, ok or bad. So the things I brought up bothered me more and more on that 2nd and 3rd read through. It isn’t always the case though, especially in this series. Issue 2 was a masterpiece of a comic. I know I have said that many times before so I will not belabor the point here. My expectations have been raised so high by the outstanding job this team has done to this point that what I may over look in other comics, really stings in this one. This series has seemed so well thought out and structured so far that I don’t understand how these mistakes happened. Who deserves the credit/blame for all this? :? The breakdown in communication could have happened anywhere. What will issue 6 bring? I can tell you one thing, I can’t wait to find out! I am so excited about the possibility that we may get a full 12 issue run of this team collected into a HC trade. In the relaunch era I can only think of 2 times that has happened...1 Ivar the Timewalker, the 2nd time was Rai. To be fair Rai did have a break in between issue so Clayton Crain could get caught up. I don’t know if the team will still together for the whole run, but I certainly hope so based on the great work done so far. I hope this series doesn’t have many mistakes because I would very much like to re read this run again and again so I can keep finding new things I love.

I didn't mind that you guys dove deep into this. It just didn't cross my mind. I really dig the perspective you've brought to the podcast. It's not all pie in the sky like some. It's not politically biased like some. It's just a comic fan digging what he digs. And being honest about what he doesn't.

Thanks man I appreciate your understanding. I do it because I really do love the characters and the universe. Thanks for the input as well. I am always looking for things I may have missed as well. :D
