I sadly find this book pretty unreadable and I think I'm going to drop a Valiant book for the first time since I started following the line. Layouts are so jumbled, the story doesn't flow and it didn't make me laugh at all. :(

In all honesty, I'm just not a fan of these characters. I have given them a shot every time they've put out a Q&W book since 2012, but they have not & do not appeal to me in the long run. I like humour in my comics, I like humorous-toned books, I even liked the very first VEI Q+W story with James Asmus & Tom Fowler on board, but I don't think I'm ever going to be a Quantum & Woody fan.

Having said that, I don't judge others if they like 'em - thats cool! I have no sense of entitlement or nerd rage that there is a Valiant title that isn't "targeted" at me or falls within my taste! I hope you guys that enjoy these characters are enjoying this series so far.

Yeah agreed. No hate for folk who like what they like. Valiant is actually pretty good about having a little something for everyone.

I'm really enjoying this book, and i dont have any trouble following the time jumping or the plot so far, but no doubt it will be easier to read in trade. "Eat literally my entire butt" made me genuinly laugh out loud.

Agreed, I totally LOL'ed! I also loved the game board page that made you read the comic upside down, quite fun (and way different!). This being my first Q&W book, I don't know how well they portrayed brotherly competition, but they seem to be doing a great job here. Conflicting interests, sucker punches, one liner zingers.... All of that is exactly how brothers would act with each other. My brother and I still look for that occasional sucker-punch that we can land on each other, and we are in our 40's! Also, that open rawness that only siblings can portray, where you can say anything, regardless of how hurtful, do anything, regardless of how painful it might be, and always be forgiven. It'll come back full circle.

Historically I’m not a Q&W fan and dropped the last series when the art became dire around issue 6 or 7. However, the first 2 issues of this series has easiily been the best Q&W books I’ve read. Whilst not laugh out load funny (no comics are) the writing from Kibblesmith is quietly amusing and not too over the top (apart from the Hedge character). I like Kibblesmith’s writing and thankfully he keeps his politics out of the book so respect to him for that.

Kano’s art is the best I’ve seen from him, the facial expressions and tiny details in the panels are superb. His panels are experimental but for me they work well.

Enjoyable read 4/5 :thumb:

Loved this issue. Kibblesmith really seems to "get" the characters.

+1 I gave it a shot, but I’m out after the first arc... :?

Then you should avoid the VEI Mark Bright relaunch of QW from a few years back. I literally had no idea what was going on.

For the record, I have not read this issue yet.

That was one thing I actually liked - that "gameboard" page layout, where the panels flowed back & forth & turned upside down across two pages. I'm not always much of a fan of Kano's style, but he is successfully experimental & I dig that.

Going against the grain here but I actually liked this. Looking forward to the next issue.
